Unvaccinated friend is not self isolating, is a primary school teacher!

My close friend is a nursery/ reception teacher so she is a close contact of various children off school with covid at the moment. She has not had any covid vaccines and is not self isolating! She has obviously not been contacted by test and trace and her school must not realise she is unvaccinated. Should I tell them? Should I tell Test and Trace?

Absolutely none of your business

MeredithGreyishblue · 26/01/2022 09:32

Tell them she's not breaking any guidelines? It's not 2020 now, you know!

Get a grip

Abraxan · 26/01/2022 09:34

School close contacts don't count for isolation means, even if unvaccinated.

They did when it was bubbles, though not if you worked outside a bubble. But hasn't for a long time now.

Apparently teaching staff don't have close contact in unventilated rooms. We are always 2m apart from the children allegedly.

School most likely know her vaccination status too.

I know one unvaccinated member of our staff and she has been in close contact a lot at school - it's rife here. She didn't have to isolate according to school.

We used to say 'welcome to Mumsnet, what an interesting first post', in cases like this, but we don't do that, nowadays.

AnEpisodeOfEastenders · 26/01/2022 09:48

Mind your own business - her choice and her risk. Same discussion thread was here a few days ago.

Roomba · 26/01/2022 09:59

I've not been on MN much for the last few months. I've found it fascinating how much attitudes have changed since I last read a few covid threads. If you'd posted this even a few months ago, you'd have got a very different response. Just find it interesting.

Personally I wouldn't be impressed that someone was taking risks like this (lateral flow tests are crap and miss about half of infections). But given she only has to isolate if T&T advise her to, you can't really do anything about it. The total lack of contact tracing in schools is an absolute scandal imo. My own kids have sat next to multiple positive cases for hours and have only known because the person texted them afterwards and said I have covid! No wonder it is rife in schools. And it is not as 'mild' as everyone seems to believe.

Snowiscold · 26/01/2022 10:04

There’s only three reasons to self-isolate:

1: You’ve tested positive.
2: Someone you live with has symptoms or tested positive (unless you have been vaccinated)
3: You’ve been told to self-isolate following contact with someone who tested positive.

None of those apply.

CroftPlace · 26/01/2022 10:05

Yep, Roomba, infected through a school visit, the only place I've been.

I have been so ill.

Whether it was months ago, last year, or present day, I'd have never snitched on a 'close friend' behind their back. If I had such a problem with it I'd speak to them directly
GirlInACountrySong · 26/01/2022 11:47

Jesus! Let her get on with her life!

XenoBitch · 26/01/2022 13:06

Yes, call Test & Trace, and her school. Also call the police and contact the local paper. That is what a good friend would do to make sure she isolates and is safe.
Then call her GP and insist someone goes round her house with the vaccine and a couple of bouncers to help administer it.

Sloughsabigplace · 26/01/2022 13:32

Just burn the unvaccinated witch.

Or wait for her to end up in ICU, as every single unvaccinated person will end up for sure and then go and laugh and say I told you so, while she frantically begs for a vaccine.

Threads like these always remind me of 2020 and the pearl clutching of a neighbour daring to walk their dog twice in one day or go to the shop for just a packet of crisps.

OP - you’ll do yourself no favours in life getting worked up over things that don’t matter.

There has never been any T&T contact with schools, just bubble closures initially if positive cases.

Not been any class/bubble closures, or close contact tracing in schools properly for well over a year.

I have had covid twice now. I'm CV and teach. I almost certainly caught covid both times in school. And almost certainly from a covid positive child both times. First time I ended up in hospital. This time round I'm still feeling very ropey - had antiviral infusion yesterday so hoping it stops it in its tracks and avoids any worsening of symptoms rooms.

It is currently rife at school among the children, though 5 staff have now caught it too - 4 out of the 5 staff have it for the second time, again almost certainly caught from school both times.

Onegingerhead · 26/01/2022 13:44

Quite a lot of “unvaccinated” threads lately. I don’t think those are real people expressing real concerns. Journos or trolls me thinks

Picklesandbeans · 26/01/2022 14:26

As a teacher you cant be a close contact- so test and trace wouldnt contact her. Shes an adult making an informed decision. If you work in a school you had to come to terms with catching this in 2020- old news for teaching staff now (same as some front line NHS who have to just get on with it)

blublub · 26/01/2022 14:29

Glad you’re not my ‘friend’!

^ Brilliant 🤣

Only test and trace can tell her to isolate. Not you Brew. Not your circus, not your monkey- don’t worry about it.

You'd have got exactly the same response from me a few months ago.
CoastalWave · 26/01/2022 14:42

Most (if not all) teachers are taking daily lateral flow tests.

It's literally NONE of your business at all.

You are not her friend.

FflosFfantastig · 26/01/2022 16:47

Just mind your own business. The fact you have even asked the what should I do question is baffling actually.

thewhatsit · 26/01/2022 16:56

If she actually isolated for 10 days every time someone in her class or year group got Covid she would surely not work this year? Probably best for everyone that she continue to do her job that the children are relying on her for.

Frazzled2207 · 26/01/2022 16:58

@saraclara

Teachers aren't generally classed as close contacts, when it comes to children they teach.

Exactly. Nor are medical staff, or covid wards would have had no staff at all until testing in place of isolation came in

This is ridiculous but true
Turquoisesea · 26/01/2022 17:05

I’m interested what risk people genuinely think she is to anyone except herself. We’ve seen the vaccines do pretty much nothing to reduce transmission, hence so many triple vaccinated people who have covid. As long as she’s testing regularly that’s the main thing. My unvaccinated friend is the most considerate person you could ever meet, fully isolated when she had covid and tests regularly, unlike triple vaccinated friends who are still out and about, going to the cinema, restaurants etc even though family members are positive and then testing positive a few days later!

yes, and whilst you're at it also call the NKVD and the Gestapo.

It's not your job to do anything!! Clearly, she hasn't been named for Test & Trace by anyone.
