How long before positive Lateral flow?

Enko · 25/01/2022 18:51

I have been for a PCR test today as I am experiencing a lot of the Omicron symptoms.

However, I have a negative Lateral Flow test today. On speaking to 3 friends who both have had covid in January they say they had symptoms for 4-7 days before they got the positive LFT with one she had a positive PCR test 2 days before her LFT went positive.

What are peoples experiences?

I had positive lft one day belted symptoms started. Assuming omicron given current circumstances.

Dp had a negative pcr one day with no symptoms. Symptoms started the next day with positive lft too.

So it greatly depends!

Whatsyourfavouritescarymovie · 25/01/2022 19:12

I had a positive LFT 2 days after symptoms started, day one and two with symptoms I tested negative, I'm currently on day 3 I think of isolation.

Katya213 · 25/01/2022 19:21

Positive lft after 2 days of symptoms. Positive PCR before symptoms started. Tested because I was a close contact.

bumblefeline · 25/01/2022 19:28

Five days after symptoms for DH, 4 days post PCR. Went negative on day 8.

SatinHeart · 25/01/2022 19:53

One of my DC never got a positive lft, just a positive PCR.
I got a strong positive lft the morning my symptoms started.

This is making me worry. DD has cold symptoms (runny nose, tickly throat) but no fever or cough or headache. There has been an outbreak in her class (6 confirmed, possibly more) so we know she has had close contact. However LFT done daily for the last 4 days all say she is negative. She doesn’t have the official symptoms to qualify for a PCR but after reading this now wondering if I should get her one anyway.

SallyWD · 25/01/2022 20:57

2 days of symptoms before I had a positive lft

FelicityBob · 25/01/2022 21:01

One positive and two negative lateral flow tests the same day I had a positive PCR (yea I know I shouldn’t have wasted them)

Oh and symptoms started that day

Day before I had a sore throat, but took a test and was negative. Had taken 2yr old for PCR previous day due to sudden cough but that was negative so assumed it was that I’d picked up and was surprised to see positive LFT the following day. Husband also had a sore throat for about three days before his was positive. Took toddler for another PCR and still testing negative but they have a streaming cold!

It varies. Two of my kids tested positive on LFTs and never showed any discernible symptoms. Other child was negative at that time, but 12 hours later felt nauseous and then tested positive.

I had a very mild headache for a week while they were all covid positive, but I continued to test negative (even on a PCR). Then headache got worse and I finally got a positive LFT.

I'm sure one of my kids must've caught it before the others, and then gave it to them. But they were all testing negative on LFT about 36-48 hours before they all tested positive.

QforCucumber · 25/01/2022 21:22

Sneezed a couple of times and felt a bit yuk on Friday (but toddler had been up half the night) negative lft Friday. Woke up congested on Saturday, positive lft. Toddler was positive Sunday, dh has had a heavy cold for a week and been negative every day

Enko · 25/01/2022 21:35

I got PCR returned as negative. Im feeling awful but apparently not covid.

I will keep LFT thank you for all the replies

My dd had symptoms but negative lfts for 2 days. We got the pcr done on a Sunday then on the Monday got the positive result from that and the left then showed positive and still is 10 days later

cheekychaplin · 25/01/2022 21:42

What are peoples experiences?

That when I go for a PCR I wait for the result and don't do LFT

Weloveyotodaily · 25/01/2022 21:53

We took a PCR tests because we were close contacts and were positive on that but it took 3/ 4 days before we were positive on LFT.

AlexandraEiffel · 25/01/2022 22:15

Me day 3, kids day 1

Moonflower12 · 25/01/2022 22:17

I never tested positive on an LFT but did on a PCR.
At least 2 of my children in my class never got a positive LFT but did on a PCR.

I don't think anyone has suggested you continue to LFT after a PCR?

We LFT'd DS less than 24 hours after negative PCR. (Covid in household so daily LFTs). LfT came up strong positive.

ShowOfHands · 25/01/2022 23:03

I had a positive PCR 6 days ago. Never had a positive LFT.

I must have completely misread your OP.
