Am lost and baffled here.

16 of 7 year olds YR2 class are off with positive tests. 5 have no symptoms. The other 10 were all sniffy and snotty and grizzly throats mild coughs for 2/3 days but all testing -ve so mixing as 7 year olds do.

Then 2/3/4 days later they all test positive so isolation begins but ours and anecdotally the others are all improved - symptoms either fully gone or nearly gone and they are all climbing the walls bored.

Am I missing something or shoukd the 5/6 days be from start of symptoms??

The solution is to stop the isolation period for children that are well. If they feel ill then they stay off school. If they are well they go in. Fortunately this will be happening soon.

It is from the start of symptoms OR positive test. As long as they test negative on day 5 and 6 they can come out of isolation

thewhatsit · 25/01/2022 13:56

What do you mean? They should have isolated when symptoms started even though they were testing negative or that they 5/7/10 days should start retrospectively from when symptoms started? - so when they test positive will become day 4?

It’s all just such a grey area isn’t it though? My family has a cold, repeated negative tests on all of us but there is a new outbreak at school so my child could well test positive because of that outbreak in a few days and also be at the end of a cold and the two be unrelated.

Sorry yeah didn’t make that clear. Thursday Friday Saturday had cold symptoms (none of test and traces official ones) but tested every day negative, Sunday morning tests positive so isolation begins but from Sunday evening symptoms going by Monday gone but day 5 is Thursday?

I’m v confused sorry

You go by symptoms, any symptoms, not just the official ones. So if they had symptoms Thursday, that’s day 0, Friday day 1 and today, Tuesday is day 5. If they test negative today and tomorrow they can go to school Thursday.

This is what happened in my case! Heated positive as I started to feel better HmmConfused

When you fill in the t and t form it asks you the day any symptoms started if you are symptomatic.

So for me i had a sore throat Friday. Cold/ sore throat Saturday and Sunday and felt better. Monday had my test and positive.

But t and t count my day 0 as Friday and day 1 as Saturday.

So day 4/5 are weds and Thursday.

However feeling fine this morning I tested when I did ds test I thought I'd test just for interest sake.

Still a fat positive line!

The isolation period is totally irrelevant now and especially in children. It will be ending soon and it can't come soon enough! Stay at home if you're ill, get back to normal once you're better. Common sense rule that has always been applicable since the start of time.

I guess if you’re only testing positive on Sunday so unlikely to be negative by Monday anyway so whether it is day 5 or not is kind of irrelevant?

But yeah.. two more months of this!
