Temp 40.1

Katya213 · 22/01/2022 20:57

My daughter's temp is 40.1, I've given Calpol an hour ago but it's still high. Does anybody know if I can now give ibuprofen or do I have to wait another three hours? She's 5.

I'm glad you are on your way, hope she is better soon Thanks

LifesABotch · 22/01/2022 22:19

@Katya213

Thank you everybody for your help. We are off to hospital now, her temp is 42.5 still and her hands and feet are like ice, she is alert and chatting but just very lethargic.
Oh gosh, that's frightening. Hope you're at hospital now, and that your daughter is much better soon Thanks
Mykittensmittens · 22/01/2022 22:25

Well done going quickly.

DS had Covid 3 weeks ago. The temperature was so unpredictable. He can’t have ibuprofen. It would swing so wildly, and freezing hands too while his head was burning. We have a temp gun thing and the front of his head was 40 but the back of his head 37.
Very odd.
As soon as the temp dropped so did his overall feeling of being unwell - maybe 36 hours max.

Windmakerfarm · 22/01/2022 22:48

Hope everything is going ok at hospital. Please let us know how you get on. Good luck Thanks

SirVixofVixHall · 22/01/2022 22:51

Hoping that she is better quickly OP.

Layoverlife · 22/01/2022 22:54

@gemloving

No need for an ambulance, the way things are at the moment going in your own car is going to be quicker

itsacovidxmasone · 22/01/2022 23:00

Thinking of you. Glad you are in hospital as it's the best place for her, what a worrying time.

I once gave my baby both at the same time when she was tiny - DM suggested it and I then couldn't sleep after reading not to give both at the same time! She was fine.

When we were in A&E recently for a fever and cold hands and feet (not covid) they gave her nurofen and her temp spiked a bit after that. 30 mins later they gave calpol and that helped to bring it down.

SquigglePigs · 22/01/2022 23:02

Hope she feels better soon OP.

everythingthelighttouches · 22/01/2022 23:57

I hope you are in hospital now and your daughter is OK.

Katya213 · 23/01/2022 06:15

We have just got home from the hospital, as well as covid she has a raging urine infection, she is now on antibiotics and her temperature is 36.8, they would not let us go until it came down. She is much better in herself now and I feel a lot calmer. Thank you everybody for your advice and help, you are all amazing on here, especially for a mum like me who has never dealt with a temp over 38 before.🥰

Glad you got her sorted and the antibiotics seem to have kicked in quickly. I still remember when my Son had a raging temperature I was so worried and he was hallucinating and talking to the wall. Luckily I spoke to my cousin who told me what to do.

itsacovidxmasone · 23/01/2022 07:50

I am so relieved to hear she is okay @Katya213 Smile you must finally be able to breathe out! Sending well wishes Thanks

Katya213 · 23/01/2022 08:00

@itsacovidxmasone The most Ive been shaken is how one minute they are completely normal, the next they are really very unwell. Thanks for your support.x

So pleased she was treated and temp is back down. You did brilliantly OP.

Don’t be afraid to take her back in if things go off piste again, kids go up and down so quickly. Speaking from experience, I have taken false security from my DS having been admitted then released.

I hope she gets better now and you both get lots of rest now, you’ve had a nasty shock.

everythingthelighttouches · 23/01/2022 08:31

Sorry, I don’t mean false security. I’m sure she’ll be fine now.

I mean I was falsely hesitant to take my DS back in when he went downhill again after he was previously in hospital and discharged. But that was a completely different situation.

Mumof3andlovingit · 23/01/2022 08:42

So glad her fever has come back down with antibiotics! Hopefully she will be on the mend now Flowers

Lastater · 23/01/2022 09:02

Oh so pleased to hear that, had been thinking of you all. Such a high temperature, how frightening.

FflosFfantastig · 23/01/2022 09:05

Just a note to say I hope your little one is feeling better today. Well done you did great. It must have been very worrying indeed. You did the right thing.

LifesABotch · 23/01/2022 09:52

Glad to hear her temperature is coming down, although of course she is still unwell, poor little thing. You did absolutely the right thing by going to hospital, and you knew something wasn't right (other than having COVID, which is bad enough) when you posted in the first place. Hope she continues to improve and is back to normal ASAP!

KurtWilde · 23/01/2022 09:52

Ah I'm so glad to hear she's on the mend OP, UTIs are a bugger and on top of Covid too, your poor DD. I hope you all have a better day today Thanks

singlenamestar · 23/01/2022 10:42

Gosh how scary for you. Glad they got to bottom of it and sending love

Workinghardeveryday · 23/01/2022 11:03

Such a worry op. We had this with ds a few months ago, his temperature was even higher! He got blue lighted to hospital. Temperature came down and he came home. Back up again later that day. Was up and down for a couple of days.

Hope she gets well soon x

SirVixofVixHall · 24/01/2022 19:01

Good news ! Thanks for the update OP, I am so glad she is on the mend.

lljkk · 24/01/2022 20:59

Glad you got treatment. DD was very ill with UTIs - 17 years ago. They can hit LOs hard.
