Has anyone experienced white spots on their tonsils and tested positive for covid?

I have had white spots on my tonsils for a few days but have been testing negative, tested today and I'm positive - is this a covid symptom or have I got something else on top of covid?!Envy

MajorCarolDanvers · 22/01/2022 08:54

Classic tonsillitis. You may need antibiotics.

Tonsillitis can turn into quinsy..please speak to Dr quinsy is very unpleasant

Bouledeneige · 22/01/2022 09:31

Most doctors won't give antibiotics fir tonsillitis now. But it does sound like classic tonsillitis.

everythingthelighttouches · 22/01/2022 09:36

Sounds like it could be strep throat and in that case you need to speak to a doctor asap for antibiotics.

They may be less likely to normally, but at 40+2 I would hope they would.

A sensation in the tonsil area was my first symptom, about 3 days before i got a positive tests. 4 months later i still have that sensation on and off and some white spot on one of my tonsils. It's not horrendous, i just notice it at times.

Infection of tonsils - tonsillitis. Could be viral or bacterial so not all GPs hand out antibiotics for this anymore. It's nasty though, used to get it frequently until about aged 25

I will say covid only because my friend had the EXACT thing she had the worst sore throat and white spots on her tonsils I said tonsillitis but she then tested positive the next day!

Wish they had more resources online, I cannot find anything just 'Covid-19 or Tonsillitis' articles but not both!

Thank you guys, my docs is closed so going to try to ring 111 think it's some sort of infection along with covid as it's also giving me lock jaw and assume cause jaw is next to tonsils these must be related.

Just hope baby hangs in there so I don't pass anything to them Sad

Ive had this and my daughter was plagued with it right through her teens. Gargling with warm salty water or a drop or two of TCP helps a lot.

I had tonsillitis in the week before I tested positive for covid. I was exposed to covid constantly during that week as everyone else in my household did have it then. I get mild tonsillitis very regularly though, so it could have been total coincidence or it could have been my (triple vaccinated) immune system fighting off covid for several days before finally succumbing to it.

ToykotoLosAngeles · 22/01/2022 15:19

I had what I thought was tonsillitis in early March 2020. Dr said it looked bacterial but the first lot of antibiotics failed. However I also had chest pains with loss of taste. I gave it to MiL who then tested positive for antibodies in April.

I know this was a few months back but I’ve just had exactly the same thing. My husband and I were in contact with someone who tested positive for Covid next day. 72 hours later both my husband and I start feeling poorly. He tested positive straight away and got a fever, headache, aches. I had a sore throat and headache and noticed a couple of spots on one tonsil, the next day I had one on the other side after about 4 days of throat pain and headaches I test positive. Seems a big coincidence so been searching the web to see if anyone else had the same! Interesting tool hear of a few! My second case of Covid and my husbands first!

I just went searching for this topic (tested positive for covid 2.5 weeks ago) and have had white tonsils since day 5. First side went up day 5 after positive covid test BA.2 (omicron variant). Took 6 days to get better. Two days totally symptom free, 1 day back at work 2nd tonsil has decided to get sore and is now covered in white. Was swabbed and tested for Strep. Infection not bacterial.

Virus's can be triggers for tonsilitis. I wonder if it is related to the Omicron variant. Omicron picked up DNA from the common cold at some stage, and perhaps this could be one of the new symptoms, as it doesn't seem to be related to earlier variants? No idea - but just curious.
