Weird post covid muscle aches

I had covid over Christmas, so four weeks ago. In my isolation period I was fine, a moderate cold with some mild headaches. However I felt worse after isolation but slowly starting to feel better however I still four weeks later have a very mild but very real slightly blocked nose, a very mild cough, a very mild headache at some point most days and the weirdest is aching muscles in my upper body. The muscles around my armpits are so tender like I’ve done a mega arm workout.

All these symptoms are intermittent and none of them are bad enough to disturb my day to day life but it’s just weird. I’ve felt my armpits and around and there are no lumps at all. Has anyone had anything similar?

My 9yo DD has had similar pain in the upper body and particularly her armpits intermittently since she had covid. I'm sorry you still have symptoms but I'm relieved to find someone else who has experienced it tbh as it's a very specific complaint and I've not come across anyone else who has had it.

DDs pain has been quite severe at times and she struggled to do things requiring upper body strength for e.g. getting out of bed etc. I assumed it was lymph node swelling causing the armpit pain.. I've spoken to the GP about it and they basically said yes probably that and also muscle pains are to be expected following covid. Unfortunately, DD got covid a second time. Her first symptoms were the upper body pains so be aware that the pains can be related to the original infection but later down the line could also indicate a second infection.

I hope yours clears up soon.

There are glands in your armpits which react when unwell so wouldnt be surprised if there is pain there.

I had ongoing aches with covid, but for me it was in my legs. Felt like the worst growing pains EVER!

I had the same - especially the armpits, but he post-Covid and post-vaccine!

Oh my goodness! Me too! I was blaming the menopause (which I blame for everything) but it absolutely started post Covid. I'm normally pretty strong but can't do anything with my left arm these days and my armpits are always painful.

I’m sorry to hear others have this too but also glad I’m not alone! Mine definitely isn’t gland pain it’s more the muscles around my armpit, and it’s very intermittent. Going to ride it out for a few more weeks and then maybe I will contact GP if there’s no improvement. Hope everyone feels better soon x

I read an article recently which said that a scientist who was researching Covid (specifically long Covid) had found really tiny clots in the blood of people who had had Covid. (Can't remember if it was in all blood or just some, but if only in some, I think it was found frequently rather than occasionally). These clots were not big enough to cause danger such as heart attacks or strokes but were very good at getting stuck in capillaries and causing muscle pains. I got muscle pains during Covid (which I had over Christmas) and then when I have tried to do minor amounts of exercise afterwards, to work back into it, I got DOMS from hell and completely undeserved given the small amount I had done. That seems to have stopped over the last couple of days. It affected both upper and lower body.
