Vaccine after long Covid??

CovidConfused123 · 20/01/2022 09:25

Has anyone done this and felt any positive or negative effects?
I’ve been so so unwell with long Covid I’ve been terrified to actually have the vaccine in case it makes me even sicker.
Anyone can shed some light on how this went for them??

I had long covid, symptoms improved after my booster. Anecdotally, in chatting to others who were in the same boat, they have had an improvement too

girlofthenorth · 20/01/2022 09:28

Apparently there was some studies to say symptoms were better after the vaccine but no idea where the link is.
I had very protracted symptoms and I was ok having my vaccine , just the usual fatigue etc

My sister's friend had long Covid and it went away after her first vaccine. She had been extremely weak and tired for about 3 or 4 months, and felt normal almost immediately right after the vaccine. She has since had the other vaccines with no bad effects.

My BIL had covid before the vaccines were available and developed long covid. He had the AZ vaccine when eligible and found his long covid symptoms improved.

Thank you so much
I have been unwell for 3 months now, off work and near enough bed ridden.
I have 2 young children and I just can’t go on like this.
Initially I was so worried about the vaccine not being safe that I didn’t have it and then I couldn’t have it as I kept getting unwell which is why I think when I did catch Covid it made me so so unwell as my immune system was shot to pieces.
Omicron is now massively on the rise in my kids school and I’m petrified of getting that and being even more unwell so I think the vaccine may help or do nothing but hopefully doesn’t make me more unwell.

I had the vaccine (2 x pfizer) after long covid. I felt pretty rough, more so with the 2nd than the 1st. Nowhere near as bad as actual Covid but meant I couldn't do much at all for a couple of weeks after the second dose. Mainly aches, fatigue, headaches and a 'spaced out' feeling coming and going. It wasn't constant other than the first day or two. Although I had myocarditis with Covid and that returned for me with the vaccine (mildly) so I have been told I can't have the booster for now. If you had any heart issues I would check with a cardiologist before you go for it.

I'm really sorry you have LC, it is awful. I am now mostly recovered, there is hope but it has taken me a very long time.

CovidConfused123 · 20/01/2022 13:02

I had no heart issues luckily - has anyone had positive effects with having the vaccine?
The evidence is pretty skewed

I had long covid from picking up at work March 2020. (NHS) After first AZ I had about 5 days of feeling unwell but then i felt the long covid symptoms improved. I'm not saying it went away but something definitely changed and I was able to get back to work. I didn't have second AZ til before Xmas but I had very minimal side effects this time and didn't feel any different. I still have very mild symptoms though nearly 2 years later🤷

CovidConfused123 · 20/01/2022 14:11

I think I’m going to have to risk it in case it helps

It's only anecdotal, but a friend of mine had long COVID from March 2020. When she had the vaccine in 2021 she felt rough for a couple of days but then began to feel a lot better. No idea if this was helped by the vaccine or just coincidental timing.

She was a lot better by mid 2021 and I think is entirely or almost entirely better now.

CovidConfused123 · 20/01/2022 14:28

Thank you for the response
I think I just need to try as right now I’m so poorly I don’t know how I could get much worse

I got covid March 2020 and had it quite badly though wasn't hospitalised. I've never been so ill. I developed long covid while the NHS was still insisting it was a 2 week illness 😒 I was seriously unwell for about 6 months then unwell but able to go out sometimes for a further year. I shared your concerns about the vaccine and initially didn't want it. However, some preliminary data came out showing long covid people were improving and Moderna was the most likely to show an improvement.

I had mine summer last year and got Moderna. After the 1st dose I felt quite ill again, my chest hurt a bit, I was fatigued and had brain fog. That gradually wore off. After my 2nd dose on the other hand I felt better that very day! I went up and down a bit after that but it was an upwards trajectory overall. I'm now so much better! My lungs still hurt sometimes but that's about it.
Good luck OP, I feel for you being so unwell especially with DC to care for xx

redeyedmonsterzzz · 20/01/2022 19:33

Not me but a couple of people on a sports forum I post on said their long covid had improved quite significantly after the vaccine, in particular the tiredness and breathlessness.

Nobody has posted anything negative apart from the usual headache, sore arm etc right after the vaccine which quite a lot of people seem to get for a couple of days.

CovidConfused123 · 20/01/2022 19:37

Thank you so much.
My long Covid is horrendous back pain / joint pain and exhaustion.
I would try anything right now to get me out of this mess.
I feel completely broken right now.

Hi @CovidConfused123 - would love to know what you decided and what the outcome was. I’m about 9 weeks post testing positive and having Long COVID symptoms, debating if and when to get a booster.... my first two jabs were Pfizer and I felt fine after those but hadn’t had COVID then.
