Fo6es my son still need to isolate after 10 days if his lateral flow is still faintly positive? He's fine in himself other than a runny nose at times. Not sure on the guidance. Thanks

No because there's no law that says you have to test if you isolate for 10 days.

However, did he do a test to confirm he had covid? Did you count that as day 0?

I'd say, if he had a PCR where he tested positive & counted that as day 0, by day 10 he shouldn't still be contagious (but he could be, some people can still be after 28 days- I think that's the longest found so far)

But if, say, he had Delta & now has omicron he could still be transmitting it.

Personally id keep him home & not mixing with anyone vulnerable.

But legally he's able to go out on the 11th day after a positive test.

No unless he has a high temperature he is free after 10 days. I am still testing positive on day 10, back to work tomo.

Unless your son is nhs staff and he has work, then there is nothing further to do assuming he is well other than a cough or ansomnia? If he has a temp or still properly unwell, then it suggests seeking medical advice. Otherwise he can end isolation.

Here is the flow chart our school sent out.

Mine is faintly positive on day10 so i would be fairly confident he’d be negative tomorrow. No symptoms anymore. But in doubt I will ask the school to keep him home for one extra day. They will probably not mind as school is rife (11 kids positive out of 29 ATM, plus staff) so i also assume the actual teaching is pretty impacted

Yes we had a pcr test and counted that day as day 0. He's not got a temp or anything

No he doesn’t have to isolate longer than the 10 days as he won’t be contagious after this time, unless he has temperature which he doesn’t.

Once he's done 10 days, that's it - he can come out of isolation. In some cases a line will remain for a while.

But I think the exception is you should still isolate if he had a fever which it sounds like he doesn't so he's good to leave isolation after doing 10 days ☺️
