Do we know of any stats estimating the percentage of the population who have not reported a positive case? I saw a daily mail article quoting 60% but couldn’t find the original source and it’s out of date now. Do you think there are any people who are resilient to it or is it pure luck. In our school some families are catching it twice, some three times some not at all despite equal exposure. I don’t have a particularly wild life .nor am I cautious. I’d say I’m doing “just enough “ but have never caught it. My neighbour works in a nursery , has three children at different school buildings) infants, junior , senior).. never caught it but tests regularly for work. Shall I put ourselves forward for medical research Wink

At last! Reinfections are to be shown from 31 January - tweet from the Dashboard Lead, contains link to the announcement with definitions!

Wow BBc showing 1 in 8 children out of school!

Regulus · 25/01/2022 20:41

I am not surprised with the 1 in 8. It has exploded in our school since Sunday. We are running Zoom lessons from tomorrow for some years and those in school will join the zoom lessons.

herecomesthsun · 25/01/2022 21:05

We have about 1 in 12 off in our school as of yesterday.

Ohsofedupwiththis · 25/01/2022 21:50

I don't know how many are off in our school - my kids haven't been there for over a week Grin

Will be interesting to notice if I can get parked easier when I take them back in the next couple of days!

sirfredfredgeorge · 25/01/2022 22:04

Why are 1 in 8 off, if only 1 in 45 have had a positive test?

JanglyBeads · 25/01/2022 22:16

1 in 45 is all ages. The wave is much higher in school age children.

Ohsofedupwiththis · 25/01/2022 22:25

@sirfredfredgeorge

Why are 1 in 8 off, if only 1 in 45 have had a positive test?
It's really prevalent in primary school kids at the moment. I know absolutely loads who have the virus.
Ohsofedupwiththis · 25/01/2022 22:26

Plus the parents they spread it too (thanks for that darlings!)

Firefliess · 25/01/2022 22:35

It's not 1 in 8 kids that have covid. It's 1 in 8 off school for any covid related reason. That includes when classes are off because of teachers having covid, or when they're are lots of cases in one year so they send them all home, or when kids aren't sent to school because of cases within their family (even though they could legally be sent in) It is lots of kids have covid, but detected cases well below 1 in 8.

treeflowercat · 25/01/2022 22:35

Just looking at cases in Europe... There are some stupendously high case numbers currently... France topped 500,000 today alone (though that may be making up for yesterday's lower number) and Denmark with over 43,000 daily cases, which would be equivalent to 514,000 daily cases in the U.K. if scaled.

treeflowercat · 25/01/2022 22:36

Omicron really taking off in Japan too with 47,000 cases today.

Firefliess · 25/01/2022 22:46

This seems to be the link to the schools absence data. explore-education-statistics.service.gov.uk/find-statistics/attendance-in-education-and-early-years-settings-during-the-coronavirus-covid-19-outbreak

I can't quite see where they got the 1 in 8 figure from though. It says 5.1% total covid related absences. 3.9% with covid and further 0.6% awaiting a test result.

JanglyBeads · 25/01/2022 23:20

Looking at the Beeb article, it has a misleading (although factually correct) headline

www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-60126783

In fact the numbers are 1 in 8 for all causes:
"Of the one million pupils (12.6%) absent, 415,000 were out of school for Covid-related reasons."

worriedatthemoment · 26/01/2022 02:26

@Notmulan how many have had it and not known i have it at moment and wouldn't really know lft negative but my ds had it and although not ill at the weekend i couldn't put my finger in it but not quite right so i did a pcr to check and positive
Lft test still showing negative
I know quite a few people who have colds etc and don't ever do LFT either so some could of missed it
My friemd is a teacher practically her whole class have had it and her dc yet she hasn't - she is now wondering if she has had it and just not known or somehow is immune ?
