Anyone else had 2 bouts of covid in a very short space of time?

Dd tested + middle of December. All of us in the house had it, she was last to get it and wouldn't have known she had it without testing. Totally asymptomatic.

Fast forward and there's an outbreak in her class. At least 20 kids and teacher + was hoping she'd be okay as everyone kept saying she won't get it again.

Did lft's on her last week which were negative.

Woke up with a sore throat, snotty nose on Sunday and very faint line on lft, then stronger Monday. Complaining her eyes and nose hurt but otherwise totally fine.

Rest of us negative so far this time. Me and dp have been boosted since we had it in December.

Anyone else's kids been reinfected so soon?

Everyone keeps telling me I shouldn't have tested her within 90 days and it's just from old infection, yet we are told to lft when we have covid to leave isolation early so it's obvious they can go negative quickly in a lot of cases 🤦‍♀️

So yeah anyone else in the same boat and totally fed up of it?

@CA0932017 those are my exact symptoms including the eyes (feel burny and watery!!). They really need to update the list! Omicron is very different to original covid. So many people won't be testing for these symptoms. My OH and DS have the same symptoms as me. The only different ( additional) symptoms ds has is he had a rash on his cheeks and aching joints. Mine feels like a heavy cold/sinus infection, and that is how DP would describe it too. Ds is 9 so he wouldn't know how to describe his.
My SD tested pos 9th Dec and again 10th Jan, both times asymptomatic on lft, did develop a runny nose the day after, but not much more. She definitely had a reinfection though as was neg on twice weekly lft inbetween.

@Staryflight445

It astounds me that people think this way of life is better than homeschooling for them for a month or so. I have such an anxious little girl after she caught covid last month at school, the situation is ridiculous and I’m seeing more and more parents remove their children from this situation.

@CA0932017

All homeschooling them for a month would do js delay things by a month or so....

Surely we've learnt by now that restrictions and lockdowns don't mean you avoid Covid, just delay you being exposed to it.

As for anxiety, that's often picked up from parents... of course I don't know for sure in your case as I don't know you, but your post indicate you're more anxious than most yourself.

treeflowercat · 19/01/2022 11:09

@CA0932017

Thanks all. I'm just a very frustrated anxious mother right now! Not over the illness as such as was mild in December and barely any symptoms for Dd this time but very stressed. Gone from having covid in December and it taking over a week for us all to catch so nearly 3 weeks of isolation in this house, a crappy Christmas, back to school but extreme anxiety from DS after so long off, major outbreak at the school and gone back to bubbles, now we have covid in the house again. DS has some up with a dodgy stomach so likely he could have it - we didn't have any gastric symptoms last time around but most of the kids in DS's class with it have sickness or the poops. I need some normality in my life. I don't drink I'm I feel Like I need a drink or three 😅🤛🤦‍♀️
I'm sorry you're having a hard time, but it does seem like the cure is worse than the disease for Omicron. If people had been allowed to get on with life based on the extent to which Omicron made them ill, you'd likely be a lot less stressed.

@stingofthebutterfly

My husband's colleague has got it for the third time in a few months. My mum had it twice in 3 months at the beginning of the pandemic before there were tests and vaccinations, and the media was saying it was almost impossible for reinfection to occur. I knew they were talking rubbish.
How does she know she had it twice if that was before testing?!

And as for getting it 3 times in a few months, unless he has immune issues, I'm not sure I believe it... it would be a massive medical anomaly.

treeflowercat · 19/01/2022 11:19

This is all ridiculous... Isolation and testing should just be stopped now in schools. It's clear that it doesn't really stop the spread, and only possibly delays it a bit if it does anything. As a result, it hardly protects the vulnerable or those with vulnerable people at home...

The disruption being caused is entirely disproportionate to the disease, and it would be better for those who had particular vulnerabilities to shield and be supported to learn at home whilst we were in episodes of high community infection, thereby both protecting them more effectively, and reducing widespread disruption.

SmashingBIouse · 19/01/2022 12:33

Who's going to pay our wages so we can shield?

I'm not sure this government will pay for the vulnerable to stay at home indefinitely.

I honestly thought we had omicron last month.. So either we did not have omicron last month and now Dd has omicron or you can get omicron twice in a short space. I'm really confused

My symptoms last month was extreme achey kegs, lower back pain, extreme sinus pain and burning which caused headache and generally feeling meh. Dp's was very cold like as was ds's. Amongst other symptoms.

Dd no symptoms last month but cold symptoms this time. I'm really confused! It really did seem like omicron last month.

If she has symptoms she needs a PCR.

ThisMustBeMyDream · 19/01/2022 13:45

She doesn't need a PCR as she has tested pos on lft. She didn't have the main symptoms for a pcr anyway - which is an argument in itself. Current virus doing the rounds is not presenting like covid mark 1. It needs to be updated.
But anyway, you don't need to do pcr.

Staryflight445 · 19/01/2022 13:49

You shouldn’t do a PCR within 90 days of a previous positive PCR.

It’s all a bit confusing for those whose children have symptoms of covid that aren’t the listed 3, have a negative LFT and can’t PCR again because they’ve tested positive less than 90 days ago.

luckylavender · 19/01/2022 13:51

@Bobholll

No she doesn’t *@LadyFannyButton* - you don’t need a PCR is you test positive on a LF. That was introduced last week.
That's if you're asymptomatic
CA0932017 · 19/01/2022 13:52

Thank you. I didn't find The guidance on pcr clear. I spoke to 119 to clear up confusion and they said no pcr, but we did anyway as the line was so faint, did become stronger.. She doesn't have any of the main symptoms, but a friend of mine is in the same boat, her son was + on lft at the weekend with none of the main three and she was told to pcr so she did. It seems that different people are giving different information.

Honestly, I can't keep up with all the changes to the guidance. It's changed since we had covid the first time round last month. Total nightmare.

You can if you have symptoms, the symptoms list needs updating.

Dd has none of the main three but I just said she did to book the pcr, people have had to do this for months as the main three need updating asap . I selected that she had a positive pcr within the last 90 days and it still let me book it.. hasn't been questioned. Filled in test and trace stuff and it literally doesn't mention the previous infection once.

It's all flawed!

I never said it would be indefinite, only during a surge like we have at the moment... The days lost of teaching staff due to this wild pale into insignificance against those that are currently off isolating.
piscis · 19/01/2022 17:59

I had it for a second time after 7 weeks.
I am double jabbed and have my booster.

MerryPoppings · 19/01/2022 18:33

You are meant to do another PCR within 90 days of testing positive if you have new symptoms.
