No one believes me when I say Dd has it again.

Anyone else had 2 bouts of covid in a very short space of time?

Dd tested + middle of December. All of us in the house had it, she was last to get it and wouldn't have known she had it without testing. Totally asymptomatic.

Fast forward and there's an outbreak in her class. At least 20 kids and teacher + was hoping she'd be okay as everyone kept saying she won't get it again.

Did lft's on her last week which were negative.

Woke up with a sore throat, snotty nose on Sunday and very faint line on lft, then stronger Monday. Complaining her eyes and nose hurt but otherwise totally fine.

Rest of us negative so far this time. Me and dp have been boosted since we had it in December.

Anyone else's kids been reinfected so soon?

Everyone keeps telling me I shouldn't have tested her within 90 days and it's just from old infection, yet we are told to lft when we have covid to leave isolation early so it's obvious they can go negative quickly in a lot of cases 🤦‍♀️

So yeah anyone else in the same boat and totally fed up of it?

She has new symptoms so she needs to test.
LFT, & the new rules, are for people who don’t have symptoms. The do not test within 90 days was do not test unless you have new symptoms.

She has new symptoms, she needs a PCR.

Bobholll · 18/01/2022 22:06

No she doesn’t @LadyFannyButton - you don’t need a PCR is you test positive on a LF. That was introduced last week.

cheninblanc · 18/01/2022 22:11

Yes, my dd has her 2nd infection in 7 weeks. We are so fed up

My daughter has COVID at the very end of November last year. LFT's between then and up until a few days ago have been negative. She developed cold type symptoms last Friday and tested positive the next day. As her previous tests were negative, onset of new symptoms and given at least 5 in her class have it, I have to assume this is a new infection (omicron)rather than traces of previous infection (likely Delta given she had all the classic symptoms. )

Jasquers · 18/01/2022 22:14

*had

Miracle29 · 18/01/2022 22:14

Yep my ds had it beginning of November and got it again now. He had a pcr as he had symptoms and that's what we were told to do. I didn't think he would get it again so soon.

JanuaryBluehoo · 18/01/2022 22:15

Yes I have heard of re infection.

NanooCov · 18/01/2022 22:20

My DS tested positive (PCR) on 6 December 2021. He just had another positive PCR on 17 January. I'm assuming different variant. At least 4 other kids in his class have had the same happen, all similar time frames.
None of the rest of the household got it in December (me and DH who are triple vaxxed and even wholly unvaccinated younger DS). But this time round I have it, so does younger DS and I suspect it's only a matter of time before DH gets it too.

Emmelina · 18/01/2022 22:43

She may have another variant to last time. Isolate her and get a PCR as she has symptoms.

MerryPoppings · 18/01/2022 22:47

Yes my DC had it twice 6 weeks apart.

NewMum0305 · 18/01/2022 22:48

@EmmelinaS
She doesn’t need a PCR if she has a positive LFT. Confirmatory PCRs are no longer required

Emmelina · 18/01/2022 22:52

I know, but it sounds like school is being weird about it Hmm so may be worth getting proper confirmation so it doesn’t affect her attendance figures in the wrong way.

pastaparadise · 18/01/2022 22:52

Yep, dd 1 had it mid Dec, but rest of us stayed negative. Last week dd2 got it, now dd1 again (lft and mild symptoms) and me. So dd1 got it less than a month later again.

Dinoboymama · 18/01/2022 23:20

The delta varient was still around in December its most likely she had that and now shes got ormicon. Its not uncommon to catch two different varients of any virus.

massiveblob · 18/01/2022 23:58

Yep. Re infection happens

Unsure33 · 19/01/2022 00:01

Yep . I know someone who has had covid ( confirmed) three times

Only not needed if asymptomatic

No pcr for 90 days after having covid.
TulipsGarden · 19/01/2022 06:09

Delta doesn't protect against Omicron, so entirely possible she's had both given the timings. Fortunately Omicron does protect against Delta!

rrhuth · 19/01/2022 06:12

@Bobholll

No she doesn’t *@LadyFannyButton* - you don’t need a PCR is you test positive on a LF. That was introduced last week.
I thought you didn't need a PCR if asymptomatic?

Just shows how bloody confusing it has all got now!

LyndaLaHughes · 19/01/2022 06:15

You do need a PCR if you have symptoms. The advice that a lateral flow test is enough is only for asymptomatic cases.

OliveTree75 · 19/01/2022 06:17

Children in my class had it end of November when we had a class outbreak and then again over Xmas

NoWordForFluffy · 19/01/2022 06:17

Yes, it's no PCR for asymptomatic positive LFT. Plus no PCR unless you have new symptoms within 90 days. Get her booked in for a test.

Sauvignonblanket · 19/01/2022 06:17

Exactly this happened to my friend's daughter on Monday except she was asymptomatic. It was only picked up because the school asked everyone for LFTs.
