Do new rules re day 5 testing count?

Hi
My son tested positive on Thursday - so today he's day 4. Do the new rules mean he can test on day 5 and 6 and if negative release from isolation on day 6?
Or do we stick to the rules that were in place when he tested positive to test and possibly release on day 7?

No you have to stick to the rules in place when he tested positive.

That’s not correct. They change tomorrow so you can test and release in line with that. I had confirmation from T&T today

CuriousaboutSamphire · 17/01/2022 17:47

Look, if he tests negative today and tomorrow let him out. Cos really, who is going to know or care? He will have met the new criteria.

If in a month's time someone tests positive on days 5 and 6, they stay in until they get 2 consecutive days of negative tests.

It doesn't have to be complicated and people don't nee to make up their own version of the rules just to be a know it all or a killjoy.

@CuriousaboutSamphire yes - totally get that - except his school have the date from test and trace so they might have something to say!

This is my text that I received for dd (also tested positive Thursday)

“It is a legal duty to stay at home and self-isolate. You could be fined if you do not.

The last day of your 10-day self-isolation is 22nd of January (including this date).
You can begin taking lateral flow tests from day 5 in your self-isolation period.

If you have a negative test result for 2 days in a row, and do not have a high temperature, you can stop testing and end self-isolation early.
While you test positive, or if you have a high temperature, continue to self-isolate. You do not need to test after 22nd of January.”

So if they test negative tomorrow and negative on Wednesday they can go back to school on Wednesday. (We’re going to test at 8am both days so she can get to school on time if negative.)

When they changed from 10 days to test day 6/7 my son was already isolating and we got a text to say his isolation had changed.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 17/01/2022 19:58

Yep..I tested postive before rules changed and got the message today about day 5 testing.

Toomuch2019 · 17/01/2022 20:14

I think you can move the new rules but I am starting to feel like it's all meaningless anyway-none of our family have tested negative that early!

Wfhquery · 17/01/2022 21:31

My son tested positive last Monday and we didn’t get a text to say it had changed, it’s irrelevant anyway for us as day 7 today and still positive

IamChipmunk · 17/01/2022 21:36

I tested positive Sat and info was to isolate and test day 6&7...

Apologies
