If recently had Delta when can you catch Omicron?

DD had what we think was Delta in mid-December. DS and DH have mild what we think must be Omicron. Is it possible for DD to get Omicron so soon after Delta? She’s had the first jab but delayed second one due to Covid.

I think it's possible. Why do you think it was Delta that she had?

Anything is possible. They are still leaning!

It could be that we can get omicron twice

Can you get Omicron twice?
“Yes, you can get Omicron twice,” says Stanley Weiss, M.D., professor at the Rutgers New Jersey Medical School and the Department of Epidemiology at the Rutgers School of Public Health. He cites a recent lecture he attended from a virologist in South Africa, where Omicron first emerged, who said that doctors in the country had seen several people who had Omicron reinfections.

And yes you can definitely get Omicron after Delta, Alpha etc.

DS had Covid in October and has it again now.

My friend’s teenaged DS had Covid in November and has it again now

DecentPleasant · 15/01/2022 15:35

Thank you. Definitely thought you can have both/more than once but hoped - from my armchair - antibodies from one would mean less likely to get the other.

My 9 year old had what we think was Delta (all classic symptoms) end of November, and has tested positive again today, presuming it's Omicron. New symptoms, like a cold
So unlucky

My DD (13) had, what we think was delta in September (mild headache and blocked up nose). She tested positive on Sunday with what we think omicron (no symptoms at all and was only positive on a lft for two days). So you can definitely catch it more than once- different variants I guess.

Because children do not reliably serocovert (or adults, especially if infection is mild or asymptomatic) then yes reinfection is more than just possible.

The fact that she has had a vaccine should mean that circulating AB's are high and she may well fight it off.

Thank you. All very interesting. She and I don’t seem to have it yet. Thanks for sharing
