PCR/lateral which to believe!

Eldest DD had some symptoms (not traditional, headche, pains etc) last Thursday and Friday, got a positive lateral on the Friday afternoon. Went for pcr Sunday afternoon and results back Wednesday afternoon. Her symtoms were exactly the same as someone from one of her activities who got a positive PCR a few days before DD.
Result said pcr negative. We have kept Dd off school yesterday and today because even though the PCR was negative, laterals are positive. She did laterals Wednesday, Thursday and today and all Positive. Do you think the laterals are all wrong or the PCR was wrong? We were considering going for another PCR yesterday but by the time the results would be back she would be out of isolation.
If PCR were wrong, so far none of the rest of us have caught it off her.

Hi, I thought the rules now are don't get follow up PCR with positive lat flow, just isolate? But I could be wrong, so confusing at the moment! With multiple positive lfts I'd isolate as advised. Hopefully no one else gets it. X

For the safety of others, I'd believe the positive test. Particularly as they have now had several of them all positive

@Spaghettipie1 You only need to follow up with a PCR if you have symptoms

its123 · 14/01/2022 10:12

Spaghettipie, the positive lateral was before the new rules came in.
No one advised her to isolate because the PCR was negative. It is us who chose to keep her off school yesterday and today on the safe side and because under the new rules PCRs aren't needed even though her symptoms that made us test were before the new rules which is why we went for a PCR.
Thanks ScarlettSunset, that is our feeling. If it had just been one positive lateral on the Friday and they were now negative then we would believe the PCR results but three positive laterals after the PCR result is now making us doubt it

I’m in the same boat as your DD. I have seen endless threads like this over the past few days, it’s a bit weird. I always though PCRs are more reliable. I know I have covid as I’m living with 3 positive people and not isolating from them.

Strange isn't it! Hope you are ok.
