Anyone else not ever test positive?

CalmDownBoris72 · 12/01/2022 11:14

We’re on round two of our household having COVID. First time in happened was in the summer holidays, H and our 5 kids all go it, I was negative.

Now we’re onto omicron, H tested positive first, 2 kids have tested positive so far but I’m still negative on LF and 2 x PCR but I’m symptomatic.

Do some people just never test positive?

8 of us in the house and so far only DP has had it... funny thing was he only knew he’d had it from a blood test... the rest of us not had it yet though.

TheSharpertheJuice · 12/01/2022 22:37

Me and DH… went to an event before Christmas, we both test for our jobs so had multiple negative LFTs in the lead up to it- lots of hugging and close contact on the Friday, by Monday every. single. household. had a positive test- but not us!
DH was in close contact the entire week with people at work who, between Christmas and New Year all had a positive test.
I’ve been sick as a dog since Christmas Day itself and still negative- it maddening!

Never tested positive, never (to my knowledge) had a dose of Covid. I'll accept that I might have had it at some point before mass testing was a thing given that it genuinely does seem to be completely asymptomatic in some people. DD hasn't had it either, as far as we know.

And we both go out, lots. Since the beginning I was operating according to what I considered sensible precautions rather than authoritarian bullshit (we would, for instance, sit down in parks and go out two or three times a day if we felt like it in the first wave; I have been to as many events as possible that were either outdoors or in well-ventilated spaces, and generally worn a mask in shops and on public transport).

I agree it's likely that a few people will have natural immunity because this has been true of every infectious disease ever.

FakingMemories · 13/01/2022 06:08

Me. Never tested. Never been positive.

chaosrabbitland · 13/01/2022 06:19

no never had it or any symtoms , had the vaccines but not the booster ,
dd goes to seconday and been in contact with kids who have then tested positve and not caught it yet
and 3 people at work have caught it and i havent got it

exLtEveDallas · 13/01/2022 06:21

No positive tests here, me DH and DD (16)

I had a horrible cold that wiped me out for 3 days in Feb 20. DD flew on a school trip to Iceland at the end of Feb and had a mild cold on return.

Since then I have had cold after cold after cold… never had a positive LFT or PCR. I work in a school and was in every day throughout 2020 (incl holiday periods when we stayed open for key and vulnerable children).

DD has been quite ill (unrelated) throughout 2020/2021 but hasn’t had as much as a sniffle and all LFTs negative.

We’ve stuck to the rules in the main, but I didn’t stop seeing my elderly parents in 2020 and spent a lot of time with them leading up to their deaths summer 2021.

DH has never taken an LFT, he hasn’t even had man-flu in 2 years (which in itself is a miracle), never had any reason to and no symptoms.

motherrunner · 13/01/2022 06:26

Never and I’m a teacher. Over Christmas both my children had covid. I didn’t isolate from them. I shared a bed with DS for a week. One night I slept with both DS and DD! Am wondering when my luck will run out.

PlanktonsComputerWife · 13/01/2022 06:30

Me. I have felt I had it a few times, but nada. I do have a chronic lung complaint, so I wonder if that offers some weird protection, the way smokers are less affected by covid

Oblomov22 · 13/01/2022 06:38

Never tested positive, none of us have had it afaik.

ArmChairQueen · 13/01/2022 06:42

Me! I even GAVE it to my 18yo in 2020. Cases very low at the time but I’d visited a higher risk area. Classic symptoms but tested negative twice. Then this new year’s Eve my youngest tested positive, I got symptoms two days later but again negative on pcr and lateral flow. Frustrating , actually . I started a similar thread myself, OP.

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 13/01/2022 06:54

I keep thinking it's amazing. We have 3 kids in school, I work in a GP practice (not front line but still see a lot of people about), DH and I go to the gym but we've never had so much as 1 positive lateral flow test between us. Ever. I'm sure it's just a matter of time but I still can't quite believe it!

BuanoKubiamVej · 13/01/2022 07:13

I've never tested positive. Rest of household all caught it in November but I was clear.

I did have a coughy cold in late Feb 2020 which I caught off someone whose symptoms included losing all their sense of smell and taste, but no way to know if that was definitely Covid.

DipYourPenisInMyBeaker · 13/01/2022 07:19

Me, DH and 2 year old, but have also been symptomatic at times. PCRs always come back negative -2 year old has had close to 30 I not more PCRs due to nursery requirements - close contacts when you had to isolate, outbreak when they shut the nursery down for 10 days, never got it. My 7 year old had it, delta, last summer. We didn’t quarantine him to a room as we all had to isolate, we did tests and nothing.

Now both DH and I are fully vaccinated and boosted.

catwomando · 13/01/2022 08:12

@CalmDownBoris72 yes this is me. Very poorly in the summer -ended up in A&E with breathing issues and all the symptoms but PCR tested negative.

Was ill for, weeks, got a bit better then got ill with a different infection.

The respiratory specialist I saw said that it was highly likely that the 1st illness was covid. She asked who did my test and at which hospital as the accuracy of testing varies quite a lot. Even antibody tests were negative but apparently they can be affected by the vaccine and on how long ago you were ill. In short, tests aren't always conclusive.

She also said that anyone who'd been in a highly /densely populated urban place (airport /tube ticket hall) from dec 19 onwards was likely to have had covid if they had the symptoms as they now know it was here much earlier than previously thought. We didn't have home testing at that time of course.

I know people who fit this criteria and were ill in Dec 19 and Jan/feb 20.

TBH it's a weird disease and nothing about it would surprise me.

I'm off to use my inhaler now as my breathing still isn't fully recovered. Sad

indie123 · 13/01/2022 08:34

My daughter has never had it despite multiple cases in her class and me having it twice. My mum has also never had it. Neither are vaccinated. My daughter is 11 and my mum is exempt (before the vaccine police comment).

Legalconundrums · 14/01/2022 08:47

Never had Covid, Never tested positive, not fully jabbed as I'm medically exempt, have been in close contact with many covid cases unknowingly at the time (Never received any calls from T and T) and work in places with high exposure to Covid. I truly believe I am immune somehow

Xiaoxiong · 14/01/2022 10:09

@catwomando that's really interesting. My mum came back from Vietnam in late Feb 2020 with a cough, they had all been sick over there over the lunar new year and my nephew had tested positive for that year's flu strain (there were no reported cases in Vietnam at that time though there were in China). We all caught it from her when she arrived to stay with us, I remember it really clearly because the week before schools finally closed my kids were home anyway with this cough/flu thing. Since then none of us have ever tested positive despite LFTs twice a week for school. Wonder if we all had it then!

TooManyPlatesInMotion · 14/01/2022 10:17

Me. DH had it, kids had it, we didn't isolate them within the house. Slept in the same bed as DH, cuddled the kids as usual. Have been in close contact with others who have tested positive too. Never had a positive test, never had any symptoms either. The closest I came was a blinding headache last month, tested negative and turned out to be pmt.

coogee · 14/01/2022 10:27

I test fairly regularly because of my work and travel but have never tested positive. My husband had it before the vaccination was available. I didn’t catch it despite no isolation inside the house. He hasn’t tested positive since.

NearlyAlwaysInsane · 14/01/2022 10:29

I never have. I had false positive LFT results in Dec (but 2 x PCRs came back neg), and have been in the same room as someone who tested positive the same day (and others in the same room got it), but so far all negative.

But then again I have had two colds, a cough, and other illnesses which are par for the course in winter.

catwomando · 14/01/2022 10:35

@Xiaoxiong I bet that was covid. A mate of mine met with people from Vietnam , Hong Kong and Singapore in dec 19 and ended up very ill with what was very likely to be covid. Her DD was hospitalised in jan 20 with severe headaches and gastro problems and very high fever which they couldn't explain. All likely covid I think (and so does she).

It's a horrible illness.

CalmDownBoris72 · 14/01/2022 10:55

I take it all back, I’m getting super strong lateral flows now 🤦‍♀️

It’s interesting that some positive people don’t test positive though, they must have something that stops the tests picking up the virus.

Me too- not had any symptoms or positive tests despite working in confined spaces with covid +ve patients every day for the last 2 years. Didn’t catch it in the Summer when the youngest kids had it at home. Didn’t catch it when my Sister and family all came down with it and we’d spent the weekend with them. My eldest Son currently spends weekend nights in festering nightclubs and has never tested positive or had symptoms.

I have no scientific evidence personally to back this up but I do believe in the latest theory that extensive previous exposure to coronavirus’s (infectious patients at work and 18 yrs of my kids snorting, snotting and coughing over me) has left some innate immunity?

I’m thinking the same as you. We’ve had it in the house 3 times and me and DH haven’t caught it. I’ve been a mum for over 20 years and have 5 kids, I’ve been exposed countless times to colds and flu and all sorts!
Blue4YOU · 14/01/2022 20:38

Never tested positive- pretty sure I’ve had it twice (second time was worse).
