Anyone else not ever test positive?

We’re on round two of our household having COVID. First time in happened was in the summer holidays, H and our 5 kids all go it, I was negative.

Now we’re onto omicron, H tested positive first, 2 kids have tested positive so far but I’m still negative on LF and 2 x PCR but I’m symptomatic.

Do some people just never test positive?

OP posts:
Locoooomotive · 12/01/2022 16:36

@CalmDownBoris72 how symptomatic are you? I am reading more and more cases like this, people who are ill with symptoms (usually relatively mild ones) surrounded by positive testing family but repeatedly testing negative. I just don't get it. One of them is my friend who is a GP and was also totally perplexed. She did however finally get a positive PCR on something like day 9 despite feeling mostly better. Lots of people say 'it could be something different' but if you're home based working / not doing much I think it just doesn't add up!

My Daughter recently (we think) had Covid again. Exposed repeatedly during the last week of term, close contact to two people and hugging her friend the day before she was positive etc. Anyway she was unwell for 5 days, but all her tests were negative. Symptoms covid like (fever, fatigue, head ache). She has had Covid before though in April 2020 so maybe some immunity lingering and she fought it off. Who knows.

Me so far, husband just recovered and 5yr old now has it, she's on day 5 and i'm still negative. Wondering if my asthma inhaler gives me some kind of protection like a covid shield :-D (wishful thinking)
I have had 2 stinking colds in the last 2.5 months though (again all tests negative)
Husband has had vaccines and booster as have i. Just hoping i stay negative! Thankfully neither of them have been ill with it

@BlibBlabBlob

Interested in responses to this thread. We all have COVID in October, DH and I are double jabbed but haven't had booster yet. (Will likely have it in the next few weeks.) DD is too young for vaccination. Got strongly exposed to COVID very early this month by a wider family member and have all felt rubbish and a bit 'Covidy' starting a day or two after that. I'm OK now, DH and DD still a bit under the weather. No positive tests to be seen though, including a negative PCR for DD.

My theory is that our immunity was severely tested and we mounted an immune response which made us feel shit, but without technically getting infected. Same sort of thing as post-vaccination, when lots of people feel quite ill for a day or two as the immune system responds to the vaccine.

Can't seem to find anything to support this hypothesis, though!

Obviously this isn't directly related to the OP's question, though, as we have actually all tested positive in the past. (Sorry OP.)

I’ve wondered the same thing. I mentioned early in the thread that we’ve had it 3 times in the house and me and DH haven’t caught it. Each time I have felt a bit under the weather (either a headache for a few days or even a slight cough etc.) and within a couple of days I’m fine. Negative on lft’s and pcr’s etc. it’s either psychosomatic for me or as you say it’s just the body’s way of fighting off the virus rather than catching it.

DD's friend was at our house for most of the day just before the end of the school holidays. We also had two car journeys with her of about half an hour each way. She tested positive two days later as did her mum who I was chatting to for quite a while (admittedly at the door rather than inside). Neither DD nor I got it.

I've had both my jabs and a booster and DD has had her first jab and due for the second one any day now.

Neither of us have ever had a positive test although we've had a couple of PCR tests because of symptoms.

Watsername · 12/01/2022 16:48

None of the 4 of us in our immediate family have had it. Neither have my parents. It’s really surprising as I work in a school and both children are at secondary.

Lulu1919 · 12/01/2022 16:51

Me

Tomnooktoldmeto · 12/01/2022 16:52

So far none of us have, DH myself DD19 and DS18

The DC and myself are all CV and CEV so we all mask, use hand gel and don’t take risks.

We all also take vitamin D. I’m prescribed it and since I was put on it 12 years ago I’ve never had a cold or the flu, research has shown the beneficial effects of having optimal levels of vitamin D

stayingaliveisawayoflife · 12/01/2022 17:05

And I have just had another negative PCR so it is definitely just a sinus infection. Back to being surrounded by germs tomorrow!

Libertynan · 12/01/2022 17:07

No one in my house has.

That’s me, DH and adult DC.

We don’t stay home 24/7 and have mixed with others who have then tested positive shortly after.

So must be super immune or I’m doing the tests wrong Grin

Laila747 · 12/01/2022 17:10

Everyone in my household has had it…2DC at uni and 4 younger (18-10) all at different schools…apart from me!
I’m starting to think its because I need to be well enough to look after everyone else!

I might pretend to have it so I can just go to bed for a week and sleep 😴

JustFrustrated · 12/01/2022 17:42

Lots and lots of contact with Covid + people.

Neither me, DH or the two kids (both in school) have had it.

I did an antibody test march last year and I hadn't previously had it at that point .

I reckon I'm just naturally immune at this point ..

NeverForgetYourDreams · 12/01/2022 17:45

Triple vaxxed here. Never tested positive. Nor have my DH, sister, mum, son, nephew. Nor have my work colleagues.

caringcarer · 12/01/2022 18:53

I'm triple vaxed but never had Covid. My dh is tripple vaxed but never had Covid , same for adult son who lives at home and 15 year old has had 1 vax and never had it despite loads of cases in his school/class. We do LF text each week and twice a week for 15 yet old. We are very careful and when we go out wear masks and meet up with friends put of doors when we can.

Ruralbliss · 12/01/2022 20:33

Yes on my return from a three day get together I tested positive and became ill.
My daughter had symptoms before her tests showed positive
My other kid never tested positive not did the ten people we cozied up with over Xmas

I later realised that Before the get together I had the symptoms listed on the post-PCR track and trace questionnaire (insomnia and an itchy eye) but tested negative in readiness for the travel plans.
If I'd known of the less obvious symptoms I would have stayed at home.

QueenB5 · 12/01/2022 20:47

I’m from NI and covid hadn’t arrived here in December 2019 but on Boxing Day I developed flu like symptoms which lasted a month and I ended up with pneumonia, I’ve never felt so ill, my children had it to a lesser extent. From September to December last year 23 out of 30 of my daughters class tested positive but she didn’t. My son tested positive just before Christmas but had no symptoms and the rest of our household (6 including my son), never caught it and we didn’t stay away from my 9 year old son. Five out of seven of my office have now got it but I am still negative on my daily lateral flows. I honestly believe I have built a natural immunity to it and so have others in the same position. I hope I don’t scud myself for writing all this 🤞🏼 ps I’m double jabbed but no booster, not that that stops anyone I know from catching it!

sleepwouldbenice · 12/01/2022 21:21

Been pinged about 6 times, some family have had it and worked with likely infectious colleagues

So far so good.....although not seeing myself as infallible

Maybe those vaccines do work occasionally Wink

oneglassatatime · 12/01/2022 21:27

I have never tested positive, kids have all had it flying around their classes at school but so far (touch wood) none of us have caught it

cheninblanc · 12/01/2022 21:38

Me, and been a close contact lots of time.

Hoppinggreen · 12/01/2022 21:41

I never have
I was very ill over Xmas and thought it was Covid, the rest of the family tested positive on a LF despite being a symptomatic but mine was negative

ToooOldForThis · 12/01/2022 21:44

Worked full time outside of the home the whole time, as has DH, emergency services.
2 kids in school, one has had covid.
Still not had it, I honestly don't know how!

Sosososotired · 12/01/2022 21:46

Me and dh have never caught covid despite having it in our house twice. Once was pre vaccines too. Guess we are lucky! Not assuming I won't ever catch it but nice to know my body is capable of keeping it at bay.

tapastastic · 12/01/2022 21:50

Several tests
Several scenarios
Whole family and workplaces positive

I've always been negative

LittleWilly · 12/01/2022 21:50

Family of four and only one of us got it last Xmas, I'm convinced it was a false positive though.
My parents, bro and SIL never had it and only one of our my 4 friend group.

Xiaoxiong · 12/01/2022 21:52

Me, DH and two primary aged DCs. We actually live in a school with over 1k students from all over the world, there have been tonnes of cases both here and in the DCs school and we have been as close contacts as you can imagine many many times, brushed up against it literally every few days since schools went back in Sept 2020, we LFT twice a week like clockwork for the school, take no special precautions, and yet none of us have ever tested positive.

Kshhuxnxk · 12/01/2022 22:05

No one in my household, my mums, my sisters (x2) has tested positive yet.
