Do I need a PCR or not?

Strong positive LFT. PCR yesterday morning was negative- results came back just now. Both my DCs have covid confirmed by PCR. DH has covid on LFT only as he doesn't want a PCR. Should I have another PCR? The LFT was so strong that the test line came up before the liquid had even reached the end. I have headache, fatigue, sore throat and runny nose.

BTW before I get flamed for using a lft whilst symptomatic it's only because I was so surprised by my negative PCR result.

As of today if you don’t have symptoms, you don’t need to get PCR test, but take it that you do have covid if you test positive on LFT and isolate.

I'd get another PCR. The same happened with me and the second PCR was positive. It's also happened with a number of other people I know.

tothefareast80 · 11/01/2022 14:17

Rules have now changed. No need to do another PCR as it's clear you have covid from your positive LFT. Isolate, notify close contacts and hopefully feel better soon.

daisyjgrey · 11/01/2022 14:21

If you don't get another PCR, make sure you log your LFT so it's on your medical record and so it's recorded data.

I do have symptoms just not the classic 3.

Logged my lft and it told be to isolate for another 11 days on the app. Not sure where that came from. 🤔

I'm so fucking grumpy 😠

My kids and husband all have covid (no symptoms). NHS Test and Trace now say that negative LFTs on day 6 and 7 of infection mean you can leave isolation. Not sure why the app says you need to do 11 days. All the new guidance is online if you want to double check.

Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 11/01/2022 14:38

Well the guidance is online but it's also mixed up with old guidance and my app is giving me old guidance so it's not very easy to check especially when feeling unwell.

Not sure what to suggest then. I don't use the app but have been dealing with this over the last few weeks due to living with positive family members who've all had positive PCRs. Hope you feel better and maybe take another look at the info when you aren't feeling so rubbish.

Thanks. Sorry I'm so stroppy

The stanzas isolation is still 10 days (for r 12 if your ant to count the first day as 1 rather than 0), so the app isn’t technically wrong. It is just that there is an exception altered on top about the day 6/7 testing

Revengeofthepangolins · 11/01/2022 21:36

After all, if you don’t pass the two LFT release hurdle, you will have to do the whole 10-11 days.

Twiglets1 · 11/01/2022 22:07

Yes the message about coming out of isolation on day 7 only applies if you test negative on day 6& 7 and not everyone will
