Anyone else finding Omicron a rough ride?

Catastrophejane · 10/01/2022 13:23

I’m triple vaxxed. Have tested positive for covid and symptoms are textbook Omicron.

However, I am finding it horrendous! It’s not the mild infection to me that others seem to be having!

Is anyone else feeling really rough with it? I’ve got terrible achiness, painfully sore throat, night sweats and really bad fatigue.

I’m 40-ish, but otherwise very healthy and low risk!

Yep, I had classic Omnicron symptoms and had a positive test last Monday - I felt really rough with it and would say yesterday was the first day I felt almost normal again. Still not quite right but hoping by next week I will be back to my old self. Also triple vaccinated and early 40's with a fairly healthy lifestyle.

Maverick66 · 10/01/2022 13:28

I tested positive on 21st December and I am only starting to feel normal since yesterday fatigue was awful.

Hoppinggreen · 10/01/2022 13:32

I think I had it from around 22nd December and I still want to do nothing more than sleep all day and my voice is still very croaky. Get a few dizzy spells too
Double vaxed but had to postpone booster

Fallagain · 10/01/2022 13:39

A mild illness means one which doesn’t require hospital care. A mild illness can still make you feel very unwell.

TheVanguardSix · 10/01/2022 13:40

I did feel rough- admittedly, not as badly as you from the sound of your description, OP. But the 'sweet afterglow' of the virus has been worse than the illness. I got through the illness and came out the other side feeling like I'd picked up another variant! Fatigue, chronic headaches that nothing can take away, vertigo from hell, just niggles and pain like ribcage pain, increased heartrate- even though I'm already on beta blockers for my dodgy heartrate. I tested positive on the 20th, so, close to Mavericks date. It's only in the past day or so I sort of feel like I can do life again. But my heart's a bit of a mess, especially at night and it keeps me awake with worry.
Healthy wishes to you, OP.

Catastrophejane · 10/01/2022 13:54

While I’m sorry to hear lots of people also having a tough time, its reassuring to know I’m not being a massive hypochondriac!

Most of the people I know who’ve contracted it are just complaining of a runny nose!

I realise this illness is only ‘mild’ , but urgh!

Hope everyone is feeling better soon

Day 5 headache and fatigued is flooring me.
While husband has a sniffly nose. Daughter just a bit tired.

All triple vaccinated. We mid 40’s daughter 18. Though she testing positive on day 7 so still stuck in!!

liveforsummer · 10/01/2022 14:55

The pain in my joints and bones on the first 2 days was indescribable and im pretty tough in general. Painkillers didn't touch it. Now the pain has gone but I feel totally wiped out and constantly light headed. On day 7 and lft still as dark as they could be.

liveforsummer · 10/01/2022 14:57

@Fallagain

A mild illness means one which doesn’t require hospital care. A mild illness can still make you feel very unwell.
Omicron has been described as 'milder' though when in fact everyone I now who had earlier covid infections were less unwell than those who have had it lately. Anecdotal I know but it doesn't appear milder for the young and healthy who are unlikely to be hospitalised whatever strain they catch
the80sweregreat · 10/01/2022 15:00

I had delta mid November and it was awful.
I think that Omnicron is a bit milder ( but still can be bad for some of course )
I had aching legs and back and just so tired , dizzy , sick , no energy , no appetite etc
Didn't have a cough though

MaddieElla · 10/01/2022 15:11

Yes, I'm starting to wonder how the heck we've ended up so ill.

Whole family (10 people) got it due to a positive person at a gathering. Only 2 of us feel absolutely horrendous, the rest saying it's "just a cold".

The two of us have terrible coughs though so not sure we have Omicron. The sore throat has been something else though.

hamstersarse · 10/01/2022 15:31

I found it to be fine. 1 day of fever and then a bit tired but not bedridden. No headaches or cough. Few aches in my shoulders which were no worse than doms. 2 weeks today since positive test and back to normal.

Haven't had the booster. Anecdotally seems to be worse for people who have

Kite22 · 10/01/2022 15:40

Yes, whole household got it at the moment, to various levels of 'illness', but it is a bit frustrating to feel so drained.
I have cough, sore throat, permanent headache for several days, bit of a runny nose, leaking eyes, but worst the lack of energy, or exhaustion after doing something really easy like putting emptying the dishwasher.
Oddly though, 2 adults in house testing positive but not really ill. One other feeling like me. One seems to vary and be up and down day by day. 1 hasn't caught it.

Speaking to friend this morning who said she had felt like I do now, for 2 weeks over Christmas, yet continually tested negative.

liveforsummer · 10/01/2022 16:22

@Kite22 I had to lie down last night after emptying the washing machine and hanging up a few clothes. Fell like I've taken some sort of sleeping tablet constantly

gsaoej · 10/01/2022 16:25

Have you definitely got Omicron and not delta? There is a bit of delta still about and it sounds more like delta.

Kite22 · 10/01/2022 16:34

No idea, they just tell you your PCR tested positive for corona virus.

I (personally) can still smell and taste though, so that is good.

CovidCurious · 10/01/2022 17:29

The virulence of the fatigue and night sweats really surprised me, given I'm boosted. Plus finding it hard to sleep sometimes, even though I was exhausted. Muscle aches were worse than expected, too. No other bothersome symptoms - a mild sore throat at times and a bit of a croaky voice.

Richtea2 · 10/01/2022 20:53

Hi,
I was feeling better thought I was getting over the cold but runny nose again. Throat is feeling sore a bit I can still eat.
Just felt really good this morning and my son now tested positive too. He don't seem to be that bad.
Still early days and tested positive Friday lateral flow test. My PCR was positive.
It's all happened rather fast.

MsBananas · 10/01/2022 20:58

I’ve found it really affecting me emotionally and it’s scared me a bit. I had a cough and bad ‘cold’, but also (uncharacteristic for me) insomnia and random, massive crying fits for the first 5 days. Was really weird.

Now on day 7 and the symptoms have changed. Cold has cleared up but I have a high temperature, am completely exhausted and my whole body hurts. Feel really low.

It feels like a weird infection attacking different bits of me. Really hope it passes soon.

I’m 40s, slim, healthy, triple vaxxed etc.

user1471509171 · 10/01/2022 21:50

I've had it twice and it's a very strange virus. Even mild it can take weeks for your body to recover.

Bagelsandbrie · 10/01/2022 21:54

I tested positive on a pcr I send off last Tuesday so I reckon I’m about on day 7 ish. I feel awful. I am in the clinically extremely vulnerable group and triple jabbed. I haven’t had a fever oddly enough but feel quite breathless (although I have a finger oxygen thing that doesn’t agree - sats 99%!!) but just generally feel rotten. Very nauseous and no appetite either. Dh has it as well - normally fit and healthy 34 year old, I’m 41- double jabbed and has felt the same as me. I just want it to go away now. I keep feeling anxious I’m suddenly going to go downhill with it but trying to reassure myself at this point that would be unlikely. I hope…!!

Bagelsandbrie · 10/01/2022 21:55

I agree with the comment about finding it hard to sleep despite being exhausted! I feel oddly “wired” like I’ve taken a load of caffeine or something at night and then suddenly like I’ve had a sleeping tablet during the day! So weird. Never had a virus like it.
