Hi everyone

I’m just wondering if anyone would consider booking a holiday abroad atm with covid uncertainty?
Thinking for Easter or summer half term would you do it??

I’m aware some countries have really strict covid policies - we have two small children so any recommendations would be fab :)

Loads of people are.

I wouldn't but I'm not fussed about going abroad

AnyFucker · 09/01/2022 07:31

Certainly

AuntieMarys · 09/01/2022 07:35

We will probably go away September/October. I can't be bothered to go abroad at the moment, and in any case always avoid July/August.
We have 4 breaks booked here before June

RedQueen81 · 09/01/2022 07:45

Yes we will be booking - not for February half term as it's too early and we don't normally travel at that time (not into skiing etc) but from April, May and in the summer definitely. Things will surely calm down in a few months.

Xiaoxiong · 09/01/2022 07:51

I just got back from one! Awake since 4am with jet lag Angry planning trips at Easter and in the summer.

Jowak1 · 09/01/2022 07:54

Yes we have booked Las Vegas for February. Unfortunately Covid isn't going anywhere and will always be around so we have to just try and get on with our lives. Take out Covid insurance though so if you test positive before you go at least you get your money back x

Hassled · 09/01/2022 08:03

I think as long as you're careful about cancellation policies and check that you'd be refunded if travel regs change, go for it. We went away last Summer - a lot of hoops to jump through and stress about testing positive before the flight home etc, but it was absolutely worth it.

Lindy2 · 09/01/2022 08:05

As long as you are ok with potentially needing to isolate abroad, if one of you gets Covid while on holiday. Or if you are not phased by testing requirements that can be subject to change at short notice, then that's fine.

Personally I wouldn't find the uncertainty very relaxing at all and I certainly wouldn't want to catch Covid abroad. We'll be sticking to the UK again for this year's holidays.

RussianSpy101 · 09/01/2022 08:07

We’re definitely going away this year.
We went august 2020 and August 2021. It was quite straight forward to be honest.
Majorca and Portugal both have lots of great places for young children and the flight time is short which may help if they haven’t flown before.

8MinutesToSunrise · 09/01/2022 08:16

Also trying to decide. Have been looking at Balearics end of May for me and 5yo DS. Really want to go away and have some sun. Would be DS first trip abroad and out first holiday just the two of us. But nervous about how quickly the situation changes with Covid.

HappyGreen · 09/01/2022 08:18

No becuase I couldn't afford, nor would want to, quarantine abroad for an extra 10 days/2 weeks if I tested positive whilst there. It would also cause major issues for my employer if I needed 4 weeks instead of 2 off work.
Will be waiting till all restrictions are removed and holidaying in the UK for the time being. Multiple testing, the threat of quarantine etc defies the point of a holiday to me which is to relax!

Bagelsandbrie · 09/01/2022 08:24

I wouldn’t. Can’t be fussed with all the rules and the potential that everything might change and I might have to cancel / rebook at the last minute.

Remmy123 · 09/01/2022 08:39

Yes - I went last see with the family and was fab, testing process was easy!!!

Abraxan · 09/01/2022 09:05

Although I don't have anything booked I fully intend to be abroad for at least one or two holidays this year.

Considering February half term. Spent yesterday looking at which countries, which are warm in February, might be the easiest to sort and have the least amount of covid related admin.

My insurance already covers me for covid related illness and cancellation in the whole. And we will book as a package so again, any changes/cancellations are easier to,sort. In the last I'd normally book separately but happier to do packages during covid times.

Based in what the children at school have told me about their Christmas breaks, and the photographs from their show & tells, it seems covid isn't preventing too many people from going abroad right now,

Whatayear81 · 09/01/2022 09:08

Hell yes!!

Two all singing all dancing foreign holidays booked for this year

zafferana · 09/01/2022 09:10

We have three abroad holidays booked already for this year and are about to book a fourth.

Silverswirl · 09/01/2022 09:13

Omg how do people afford for be booking 4 foreign holidays? Do you have kids?

uggmum · 09/01/2022 09:13

I went abroad last year. I have booked to go to Jamaica in March and Dubai in June.

Last year my son went to Majorca, Morocco, Paris and the Maldives. With no problems.

All the entry requirements are on line. As long as you follow them you'll be fine. I also have a really comprehensive covid travel insurance policy that covers all eventualities.

alienalan · 09/01/2022 09:14

Have booked for June. Greece

Taking a chance. Haven't been abroad for 3 years.
Eeeek

CJay81 · 09/01/2022 09:16

Booked one last year for this year and think we will be going, or maybe hoping is a better word. Feel a bit nervous about it but I think things will be OK in Summer. I wouldn't book one for Winter but I think we'll have a fairly normal summer.

MrsSkylerWhite · 09/01/2022 09:19

No because we couldn’t afford an isolation hotel if rules suddenly changed.

Watapalava · 09/01/2022 09:21

Yes i have 2 booked this year -- went twice last year. Its straight forward. Risk of isolating abroad is now gone with the stopping of 'test to return' - not that i worried about it.

Be much harder though as many countries are no longer allowing unvax teens and many dont accept UK recovery certs so for those of us with teens, it'll be March onwards or even longer if kids had covid and waiting on 1st/2nd jabs

Watapalava · 09/01/2022 09:21

Mrsskyler

Insurance covers hotel, return flights etc if you take out covid policy

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 09/01/2022 09:22

Keen to get away at some point. Not booking just yet, but we are booking leAve from work (which we can cancel later) and keeping a close eye on a few destinations. My my main concern is making sure that we can access everything like restaurants and museums where there. This is not straightforward as my DC are 11 and 15, and some countries expected them to be double vaxxed, when only one can be vaxxed in the UK.

Plan is to wait and see where's looking doable around 4 weeks before we'd like to travel.

zafferana · 09/01/2022 09:23

@Silverswirl

Yes, but the way we travel is budget flight + airbnb apartment - it's not fancy!
