Hi everyone

I’m just wondering if anyone would consider booking a holiday abroad atm with covid uncertainty?
Thinking for Easter or summer half term would you do it??

I’m aware some countries have really strict covid policies - we have two small children so any recommendations would be fab :)

We've not booked yet but planning to go abroad in the summer like we used to in 'the time before.' Thank goodness - I can't wait!!

EarPlugAfficionado · 09/01/2022 09:29

Can’t be bothered with the uncertainty, so have booked Center Parcs for summer. Will be raring to go abroad any time in 2023 though!!

userxx · 09/01/2022 09:31

@MrsSkylerWhite

No because we couldn’t afford an isolation hotel if rules suddenly changed.

Pretty sure we've seen the end of isolation hotels, thank god.

ImInStealthMode · 09/01/2022 09:33

Yes, we're booked to go long-haul on honeymoon in June and short-haul in July. If we have to change then we'll change.

I work in travel, if people don't have a little faith and book now then there won't be a travel industry to come back to 'after the pandemic'.

Delatron · 09/01/2022 09:39

Yep. Went away twice last year to Greece and Lanzarote. Testing was a bit of a faff in the summer and slightly more stressful than normal but so worth it.

Have a couple of trips booked already for this year. Fully appreciate they may change. So have good insurance and willing to be flexible. About to look at Long haul for Easter. Some countries have more restrictions than others so you just need to do your research. The more you do it, the more you get used to the forms and the testing. My October holiday wasn’t stressful at all. Though at that time they’d removed the test before the flight home. (Which they have again now).

Want to support the travel industry and where there’s a will there’s a way!

FramptonRose · 09/01/2022 09:39

We are not at the moment as we have children over 12 who are not vaccinated and from what I have read, if you book now, in the hope restrictions will change by the summer, you will not be covered by most insurance companies, so we are not taking the risk at the minute.
I am hoping we may be able to book a last minute deal if restrictions change.

We did go abroad twice last year (one was a family emergency as my husband had a seriously ill relative) and although it was a faff with the testing, it was still worth it.

Delatron · 09/01/2022 09:41

I think it will be tricky if you have an 11 year old who turns 12 this year. Especially if they have a summer birthday. As there won’t be time to have 2 jabs before travel in the summer.

Crazycatlady83 · 09/01/2022 09:43

Booked Easter for a week! Can't wait!

Villanelle17 · 09/01/2022 09:50

@uggmum

I went abroad last year. I have booked to go to Jamaica in March and Dubai in June.

Last year my son went to Majorca, Morocco, Paris and the Maldives. With no problems.

All the entry requirements are on line. As long as you follow them you'll be fine. I also have a really comprehensive covid travel insurance policy that covers all eventualities.

Can I ask what insurance you have? I'm having to go to America for medical reasons in April then for surgery on October, so I want a good insurance policy
itwasntaparty · 09/01/2022 09:51

We are booked for two in the summer, haven't been abroad since august 2019 and really really want to go.

TalkedTooMuchStayedTooLong · 09/01/2022 09:53

I booked a holiday which I'm considering cancelling... not because I'm scare of Covid, but because of the uncertainty . I don't want to spend the next six months wondering if I'm going to have to cancel/ what rules will be like at destinations etc, etc...

It's a more extravagant holiday than usual to destinations I've always wanted to visit as I've a big birthday this summer, and it's also likely to be the last year all my kids (older teens) would want to come with... but the uncertainty is already taking the shine off of that, and I think I'll put it off until I can be more certain what restrictions are likely to apply... Luckily I don't have to decide for a couple of months...

NeedAHoliday2021 · 09/01/2022 09:58

Interesting to see those saying it’s easy. It is if no one in your party had covid! The more dc the higher the risk (especially primary age). We were due to go to Florida for Christmas but couldn’t go due to dd testing positive the week before so we’re waiting to receive the insurance pay out before booking a different holiday for April or August - can’t decide which but I’m usually a traveller/explorer but this time I want all inclusive on a beach where I can lay and read a book for 2 weeks.

Went to Croatia in September, Majorca in October and Algarve over Christmas. Going Canaries for February half term. Travelling is extremely cheap atm so I am taking full advantage.

StressyMcStressFace · 09/01/2022 10:07

We've booked our holiday to Spain for the end of June. After two years of intermittent lickdowns, being ultra cautious and being scared to do anything "just in case" I think its time to make considered decisions as to how risky something is for you. Quite frankly we can't go on living like we're terrified of "what might happen" otherwise we'll never do anything fun again. I'm not saying go mad but its definitely time to start taking those first steps back into the big wide world and experiencing all it has to offer. Even if you have to wear a mask and take a few tests Gin

OneLove12 · 09/01/2022 10:10

Yes, fully intend to go Easter holidays,
Probably Spain or portugal. It will be 3 years since we last went. That's 3 years of the kids lives. I'm not missing out on another year; we're going to take the chance

MajorCarolDanvers · 09/01/2022 10:13

Holiday companies experienced a huge rush in bookings last week when pre departure tests were dropped.

Fortunately I made our booking the day before that as prices started rising immediately and save £600.

We are booked fir Lanzarote the first week of June to maximise the bank holidays. Means DH and I only use 3 days annual leave and kids only miss 3 days of school.

My travel insurance covers those costs.
Abraxan · 09/01/2022 10:45

@Silverswirl

Omg how do people afford for be booking 4 foreign holidays? Do you have kids?
I guess people have difference incomes and different priorities.

We are fortunate that we can afford a number of holidays each year, abroad, and it is something we prioritise. Out household income is fairly high. I know that we are incredibly fortunate to be able to do so. I certainly didn't experience that as a child, so I know it's something of a privilege to be able to do.

gogohm · 09/01/2022 10:46

We are booked, transferred from 2020

maddy68 · 09/01/2022 10:50

I live in Spain. Tourism hasn't stopped go for it

Bobholll · 09/01/2022 12:49

Yes! We are booked for 10 days to Majorca in August! Insurance covers all possibilities. It’s costing a fortune, I have zero spare cash paying for it every month but it’s what we prioritising & fortunately, OK earners. I’m another one who never went abroad as a child as my parents didn’t have the money so I don’t take it for granted that I can afford a holiday every year. It doesn’t make you a bad parent to have a lovely week in the UK! I loved my summer holidays as a kid!

I honestly cannot wait to get off that plane & feel that heat hit! I’m not worried at all bar us all catching covid out there 🙈 but we will be outdoors 98% of the day at the beach or pool & plan to always eat outdoors etc. Fingers crossed!

MrsKDB · 09/01/2022 12:53

Definitely. We booked all our 2022 breaks during oct half term. Only one abroad , and not flying, but we wanted a good choice of location and accommodation and are still locked into school holidays only.

uggmum · 09/01/2022 14:02

@Villanelle17
Mine is part of my bank account. But I took a policy out for my Son with Staysure. I found it to be really comprehensive
