People who get covid get it more than once

Just anecdotally, it feels like people who get covid once are much more likely to have it again, other folk just seem bullet proof. I've worked in a higher risk environment throughout, testing twice a week and haven't had it. I know lots of folk working in the same environment who have had it twice. Does anyone know if the stats bear this out?

This trend is absolutely still evident in my workplace (big high school). Most staff getting it now have already had it, with a core of people with equal exposure not getting it once!

Not in mine (factory). No one has had it twice.

All 4 of us had it at end of October. Husband and I were both fully jabbed. Now son has it second time. Hoping the rest of us don’t get it a second time. Husband and I are now boosted too so hopefully if we do get it won’t be as bad as last one.

I've been careful. WFH, obey the rules, masks, hand sanitising, distancing etc etc. . I live in a big city and I have a school age DC (

Mistlewoeandwhine · 16/01/2022 09:05

We’ve all had it twice. Second time was due to a school trip which laid low half my son’s school.

There have only been 15 million covid positive cases in the UK. So it stands to reason that actually approximatrly 75% of the population have still not had covid. Some will have had it before testing, but also many of those positives seem to be people who've had it twice so seems to balance out.

I had it march/April 2020. Have not had it since. I actually don't know that many people who've had it, I work in a hospital and a lot of my colleagues have still not had it, including those that have worked in covid ED right since the start. My parents are teachers they have not had it.

DP has been going to work throughout, he is not an obsessive handwasher and has probably never washed a single grocery. We have gone to gigs, clubs, pubs and he has still not had it. Even when we shared a small 1 bed flat with my covid he still did not get it.

I do find it a bit odd I know so many people who have not had it, and my circle is actually a lot of health care workers and teachers, and yet the odd couple who are onto their 3rd round.

Fyi before this week, the cases data excluded reinfection, so none of the 15m+ positives were reinfections. coronavirus.data.gov.uk/details/whats-new/record/beb802ac-1ed2-47ac-b314-69a5c3f712b5

Teacher here! I'm on bout number two, having had it for the first time towards the end of 2020.

Happyharry2003 · 02/02/2022 02:54

@ethelredonagoodday

Our whole family had avoided it until fairly recently. DD caught it in October. Then in December DH and DS had it, then I tested positive for it start of this week. DD has now tested positive for a second time.
Exactly the same here!

I haven't had covid and neither has anyone in my household. Ironically none of us have had the vaccine. We do all eat very healthy and go to the gym 5/6 days a week. My sister has had it twice and she's had all her jabs/boosters etc, she doesn't eat as healthy as we do and only exercises on the odd occasion. I actually know more people who have had the vaccine who have caught covid then those who have not. I actually think it's about your genetic makeup. Some people just don't seem to catch things and others are unwell all the time. It's strange
Tillyloveslettuce · 02/02/2022 03:32

Alexashutup I haven’t had it yet. I’m a primary teacher and, on average, 1 in 6 kids in my class usually have it. My kids’ classes are riddled too. Does that count as being exceptionally careful? The only thing we do that is ‘careful’ is wear an N95 mask indoors, including the classroom.

We escaped it for nearly 2 years then Dd got it twice in a month... both very mildly.

Popcorn925 · 02/02/2022 13:13

Agree with OP. My sister in law has just tested positive for the 3rd time in 21 months (with negatives in between), and my brother who obviously lives with her, hasn't tested positive once. They both test the same amount.

rainrainraincamedowndowndown · 02/02/2022 13:52

We haven't had it yet. Dc is testing twice every week, since he's in secondary.

But non of my extended families had it either, both my side and my dh's side, in different locations. Maybe we are naturally immune, or just lucky so far? Or the vaccine actually worked really well for our family? Hope it stays this way.

Themadcatparade · 04/02/2022 13:25

I'm on my second bout of it now, 7 months apart. My friend and daughter had it 5 weeks ago and been reinfected, positive test this morning!
