I don't know what to do

DS is still ill a week into Covid. He's only 10 and is autistic so his pain receptors are sometimes a bit "off" but has various symptoms including a fever that comes down a little with meds but always goes back up again. He's had a fever for 7 days now. Our family doctor won't take covid queries. Is it worth ringing 111? It looks online like there is a 12 hour callback time... Do I take him to the children's hospital? Or do I just look after him at home? His immune system is more vulnerable to bacterial infection but usually ok with viruses, but this has been going on so long I'm worried and really have no idea what to do.

Ringing 111 probably won't hurt or are you the poster that had advice from them before that ignored the bacteria risk?

That might have been me, I don't know. I have had bad experience with them before but ages ago.

What meds is he taking? Is he on top dosage of whatever he's having, and is he taking it regularly, not just when the fever goes up?

I'd ring 111 for sure, but if they can't get you an out of hours appointment I'd investigate going to the hospital.

Calpol and ibuprofen. If they ring back in 12 hours that will be like 5am. Do they do that? Like ring whenever?

Yes. I've had callbacks from 111 at all hours. They also book for you to take child to OOH or A&E in the night/early morning too.

Do they always get someone to ring you back or do they sometimes just send you somewhere straight away? I'm nearly home from work now and thinking ahead.

I've always been rung back. E.g. if child was very distressed when i called but now settled, whether to take now or see how he is on waking.
