Cold and losing smell/taste?

I've had a cold for a few days and have since been doing daily lfts which have all been negative.

However today my taste and smell has completely disappeared. I've booked a PCR but just wondering if anyone else has had the same? And been positive/negative on PCR?

Losing or a reduced smell and taste is not a new thing but it's more spoken about now and obviously if you cannot smell or taste you should get a test.

I lose my smell and taste with an average cold from both blocked nose and inflamed sinuses. I also lost my taste last year with throat infection (I did get a test to be sure).

I had covid last month, it was like a bad cold. I was so congested and bunged up. I lost my smell and taste after I tested positive so I knew it was covid by the time my senses went.

The difference with covid is the amount of time it can take to come back. Usually it comes back quickly after a cold but can take much longer with covid. I tested positive nearly a month and and it's still not 100 percent! I also get a smoky smell and taste from all things, like it's burnt or off. Saying that, Dp only lost his for 3 days and it came back fully straight away.

I also find with a cold I'm still massively hungry even if I can't taste it. With covid I was totally off food.

Hopefully your pcr will be negative.
