Covid twice in two months?!

I caught Covid at the beginning of November. I’ve just done a lateral flow test this morning and it’s positive! I can’t believe it - I thought it was highly unlikely that I’d catch it again so soon, especially as I had my booster in December. Is this unusual? Really upset Sad

I guess you’ve had 2 different variants? That’s rubbish, I hope you’re feeling OK!

L0uby1 · 04/01/2022 10:23

Yes, my friend has just tested positive on pcr. She had coviid in November. So much for vacinnes..

notagain2022 · 04/01/2022 10:24

Thanks - I’m feeling fine apart from a slight cough. But am apprehensive about symptoms potentially getting worse Sad

Neil Ferguson this morning said 10-15% of omicron cases are reinfections at present, although he didn't say if they know how recent the previous infections were.

My DS tested positive last week, about 97 days after his previous infection, and having had one dose of the vaccine. Far fewer symptoms this time but that could be because it's omicron.

Scottishskifun · 04/01/2022 10:33

Its definitely possible with omicron as it seems to evade previous infection immunity from other variants. So likely you had delta and now have omicron.

notagain2022 · 04/01/2022 10:39

I can’t believe it, I feel so apprehensive as I had it quite badly last time. I know Omicron is meant to be milder and it does seem to be so far, but it’s early days so am still nervous. Remind me - do I now order a PCR and isolate for 10 days? Or is it 7 days now? Sorry, obvious questions I know but my head is in a spin.

Have you had several negative LFTs since your infection in November OP? There's a small chance you could still be showing positive since then, and what you have now is another virus, or reappearance of original symptoms.

It's pretty much impossible to be sure either way and you do need to get a PCR, although if your PCR is negative it might put your mind at rest.

Positive PCR would mean that you have to isolate for 10 days from onset of new symptoms (or PCR date if that predates your symptoms starting), unless you test negative on LFT on days 6 and 7, in which case you can leave isolation earlier.

It would be very unfortunate to have caught Covid again so soon, but not impossible. Hope you feel better soon x

notagain2022 · 04/01/2022 11:06

Yes, I’ve had lots of negative LFTs since my first case of Covid - then a sudden positive this morning. I will order a PCR ASAP.

Are symptoms likely to be as bad as last time or should they be milder? I cannot believe this is happening again, feeling so anxious.

Are

Yes, get a PCR. If it’s positive then you do lft on day 6 and 7 and can come out if both are negative (in England). 10 days as before if they’re positive.

QueBarbaridad · 04/01/2022 11:09

Symptoms will probably be milder. All indications are Omicron isn’t as bad.

Jaffacake007 · 04/01/2022 11:09

I'm currently in same situation OP.

Had covid badly back in October, caused a blood clot in my lung and I was hospitalised. I was double vaccinated.

I've just tested positive again. Think it's Omicron as I have flu symptoms. Still not pleasant as my lungs are previously damaged but currently manageable. Hoping it doesn't get worse but I'm v nervous!

QueBarbaridad · 04/01/2022 11:21

Good luck @Jaffacake007 and good luck @notagain2022.

JanglyBeads · 04/01/2022 12:12

Symptoms should be milder because of omicron's qualities and also previous infection. If previously hospitalised presumably you can seek medical advice this time?

If you register the LFT you'll get a swift email with the next steps on. But you are free to order the PCR first if you want.

Hope it stays mild.

Bobholll · 04/01/2022 13:55

Different variants unfortunately. I know a few recent reinfections 😫 Delta in Oct/early Nov (presumably) & presumably omicron over Christmas! Least you’ll have some decent immunity to both now!

Omicron will be milder & also your Delta antibodies are not completely useless against Omicron. It should help a bit!

I'm annoyed that I've got it again and it was July when I last had it so I feel your pain op
