As the title says really, they had covid a few weeks ago and I wondered when they could have their first jab. I thought it was 12 weeks. Also does having covid count as having a vaccine? As they'll have antibodies in their system now?

It is 12 weeks after covid for that age group

SmallElephant · 03/01/2022 19:53

Yes 12 weeks from the positive test or first day of symptoms.

Cookerhood · 03/01/2022 19:54

And yes, they will most likely have antibodies.

By 'count as having a vaccine' do you mean in terms of travelling abroad? I think different countries have different rules about this.

Gladioli23 · 03/01/2022 19:55

12 weeks, but it doesn't count towards the course, so they'll still be eligible for two jabs along with other 12 year olds.

Genuine question, not being goady. If your child has had covid and I’m assuming they weren’t too unwell with it, why would you want them to be vaccinated?
KindleAndCake · 03/01/2022 21:35

I want them vaccinated because obviously one vaccine isn't enough, I've had 3 jabs.

Thanks for all your replies. I thought it was 12 weeks. I thought they might get away with just one extra jab, but I see they'll need 2.

its 12 weeks online but most walk in centres near me are giving vaccines after covid from 28 days for healthy 12-15 year olds. Both ds had theirs less than 5 weeks post covid only last week

Watapalava · 03/01/2022 22:36

If you are thinking of travel, some countries accept recovery certs

PP - no teens can be admitted to many parts of europe now without 2 x vax - testing alone is no longer accepted like it was last year.

@louleey

Because reinfection occurs, immunity generated from infection is variable, and vaccination has been shown to boost exist immunity significantly.
