‘Flexible use of support staff in keeping lessons face to face’

One of the points made by the education sec for return to school this week.

Are they planning on paying a decent wage for support staff then?! I’m a TA and having to claim UC as my wage is so poor, quite frankly it’s an insult.
I’m so angry reading that…our pay and conditions are already awful, I can’t quite believe the cheek of it.

That's an excellent example of toxic positivity, isn't it?

noblegiraffe · 04/01/2022 10:03

Was it Wilshaw, perchance? He's an arse.

He is, however, signed up to go back into schools and teach when needed. Hopefully he'll be the one in the hall teaching the whole of Y11.

@itsgettingweird

Idiot ex ofsted inspector now on itv saying creative and good HT with a positive attitude will keep schools open.

Basically setting the narrative that those who can't it's because they won't and don't want to and aren't good at their jobs.

Absolutely nothing about educating them. Or safety.

Also this puts blame onto heads/schools in areas of deprivation where Covid rates have always been higher due to more people being unable to afford to isolate, crowded housing etc.

Covid has not been spread evenly around the country. Although I suppose with Omicron being so transmissible it might be more egalitarian Grin

It may be.

To be fair to him he did say he's going back in.

Perhaps to demonstrate how you teach 3 classes in a hall of 3 different subjects and not have a covid out break at the same time!

@rainrainraincamedowndowndown

I think it's an insult to staff, as well as to the parents and children. Education isn't just being in school. Quality of lesson matter. So if they think it's ok as long as children are in school with support staff supervising, they are not really thinking about children at all.
Im shocked that parents support this. Apart from getting TA to supervise children, what about the children's eduation? How will behaviour be if they are all shoved into a hall colouring in! Its absolutely shocking.
neveradullmoment99 · 04/01/2022 21:38

Then you will have the spread that will be made even worse!

neveradullmoment99 · 04/01/2022 21:40

I am so shocked and so glad that where I am, although not the best, there is now way that this is happening.
We are back to bubbles and absolutely no mixing of children indoors.
Sanitising, maintaining 2 metres from the children and we can wear masks without any issue. [ Primary in Scotland]
If this were to be happening to my high school children, I would NOT be sending them.

neveradullmoment99 · 04/01/2022 21:41

High school have been wearing masks and there has been a good uptake of the vaccine in high school.

Northsoutheastwest76 · 05/01/2022 21:42

That's not true though. This year's A level and GSCE grades are still going to be higher than pre pandemic, and exam content will be removed. That's my understanding anyway.

@Blubells the latter part of the statement is not true though in most cases. The only concession for A Levels is being given some detail on the focus of the exam.
Yes the boundaries will be more generous than 2019 but they won't be competing with 2019 students for a Uni place. It will be the more generously granted results for 2021 and possibly some 2020 students who were also royally screwed initially before they saw sense re the algorithm.
Bear in mind these kids were abandoned in their GCSE year in March.
They have had periods of disruption throughout their course. If the teacher is sick they are set work to do at home. Yet again for another the 20th time this year DD1 has come home early today as the newly appointed Teacher for one of her Subjects doesn't start till next week.
A Level and GCSE Students need their teachers well and in school not merged with a totally different subject or the Government need to put in more concessions.
Their first Public Exams will be the ones which will determine whether they get a University Place.

We need to make classrooms safer for kids. Please sign our petition for government funding to get air filters in all schools.

Every school. Every classroom. ASAP.
