As most people could have predicted, Scotlands cases are flying up in the same manner they did in England

None of the restrictions are enough to have any positive benefit in stopping the spread of Omicron, they only cause additional harms so are just a complete waste of time, money and mental stress

London seems to be surprise surprise following SA and starting to see cases fall and the growth in the rest of England is slowing. In 2-3 weeks cases will be plummeting and shortly after the pressure will ease on hospitals. Again as expected severity of Omicron is far less than Delta - less hospitalisations, shorter stays, less ventilation and Intensive case and less deaths. I'm genuinely baffled how anyone thought this wouldn't happen.

Chris Whitty et al couldn't have called Omicron more wrong - the reward for incompetence being a knighthood!!

I hope Sturgoen / Drakeford are ready for the flack they will get from their respective nations when they are still restricted and England are at the pub, football, nightclubs etc.

The final straw will be of plan B is eased in England at the end of Jan!

@shortterm

The fact that LFTs in school is a less good idea than LFTs at home still remains, no matter whose idea it is.

The alternative to LFTs in school is not no LFTs.

I will test my DC before they go into school and log the result. I would rather they then didn't have to sit in a room where potentially infectious people stuck swabs in their noses (causing them to potentially sneeze) and maybe also throats depending on LFT type (causing them to gag).

The best time to identify infectious pupils is not when they are already in school. It is before they attend school.

Our school in Scotland have sent LFTs home before the holidays and asked that the kids test the night before or the morning of the return to school. They have never done in school testing

@AlecTrevelyan006

Do you have data for when Scotland's cases started "flying up" compared to England's?

I agree re NS and Drakeford

And additional harms mean restrictions we put on are not worth it

Masks in classrooms won’t put an end to Covid in schools. It will just stop our learning and our recovery from lockdown. And, just like before, it’s clear the Government’s primary motivation is politics not infection control. Politicians want to be seen to be doing something and we teenagers are low-hanging fruit.

Well, I’ve had enough. Secondary school pupils like me have made so many sacrifices during this pandemic. Over the course of three lockdowns, we’ve lost a chunk of our education, watched friends drift away, and missed important rites of passage.

Yes, we’ve had our families, but we’re at the age where we want a bit of independence – and the pandemic has taken that away from us too.

Surely sucking all the joy out of our school lives by forcing us to wear masks yet again is a step too far?

We all agree that vaccines work. Now is the moment to put our faith in them, and give teenagers our lives back

Piggywaspushed · 04/01/2022 09:57

And?

There will be plenty who don't think like this.

Oh, I wonder why and how the Telegraph found April!

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 04/01/2022 09:58

Probably the same way they found Victoria Coren.

(Although I'm very glad they did).

noblegiraffe · 04/01/2022 10:00

The Telegraph is basically a mouthpiece for Us4Them who I have seen tweeting obviously fake shit from 'teenagers' before.

They shouldn't be allowed near children.

The last line of that is pure Us4Them...

twitter.com/Abbieleighh11

"I can promise no child/teenager cares about wearing masks in class. We’d rather keep ourself and families safe instead of listening to conspiracy theories. Unlike a lot of you “adults” " Abbie

twitter.com/catchthefall/status/1477456672327192581

"actual college student here, believe it or not, most students literally are fine with it. and in the #NoMasksInClass hashtag all i see is adults speaking? interesting." dorian/nicky

twitter.com/hashtag/NoMasksInClass?src=hashtag_click

"#NoMasksInClass is utter nonsense. I’m a Scottish student who has worn a mask for almost a full year and had no problem. We don’t need older people deciding what’s right for us, masks work and are not detrimental to learning. You cannot speak for pupils if you are not one." Callum

Said no teenager, ever.
noblegiraffe · 04/01/2022 10:08

Hahahahaha I just read the whole piece on twitter. It is SO obviously written by Us4them that it's embarrassing.

Spotted some lines that have been wheeled out on here too.

noblegiraffe · 04/01/2022 10:10

Wheeled out on here before the piece was published, I should say.

Northsoutheastwest76 · 04/01/2022 10:15

Yeah can't see a teenager using the phrase low hanging fruit.

herecomesthsun · 04/01/2022 10:17

The teens on twitter are completely owning U4Them, they funnily enough don't want anyone speaking "For Them".

Who'da thunk it?

Blubells · 04/01/2022 10:18

The teens I know would much rather not wear masks all day at school. They've got mock exams and find the mask annoying, especially as they wear glasses.

Northsoutheastwest76 · 04/01/2022 10:22

Yeah my DD struggles when doing science experiments but fully accepts it. Maybe us parents need to donate some anti fog spray.

noblegiraffe · 04/01/2022 10:29

Well of course they would rather not wear masks all day.

That doesn't mean they'd be seen dead writing a whiney letter of drivel to the fucking Telegraph though.

I'm impressed with this. It's an excellent letter. Sadly, I do not believe for one second that it was written by a real teenager, unless they were taking dictation.
MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 04/01/2022 10:32

I don't know. Couldn't you imagine a young Gove writing something similar?

noblegiraffe · 04/01/2022 10:58

Only if he'd been heavily immersed in Us4Them propaganda beforehand.

theemperorhasnoclothes · 04/01/2022 12:50

Ha ha ha ha ha.

Oh my goodness, I needed that laugh. U4T really don't understand kids at all do they? It's a bit disturbing that the lies are so obvious now, though. Is it obvious trolling or do they REALLY think this will convince anyone?

I wonder how they think vulnerable kids or kids with vulnerable parents feel when in schools with 0 protections (like masks) and whether they have the joy 'sucked out' of their school lives when they are faced with the realisation that the politicians in charge and adults like U4T give zero fucks about their health and wellbeing?

theemperorhasnoclothes · 04/01/2022 12:53

And of course the perfect response to this little propoganda piece is to say 'well don't wear a mask then, you don't have to' which mirrors the 'you can wear a mask if you want to' given to all the poor vulnerable kids who've been forced to stand out as the only mask wearers in school so far - thus disclosing their / their families underlying conditions to everyone

Geamhradh · 04/01/2022 12:55

@borntobequiet

other teacher of hearing impaired students has in situations where masks have been obligatory

Such as where?

Me. In Italy.
