Lateral flow on child is this enough?

We were close contacts with a confirmed positive covid case on Monday so me and DH have been doing daily lateral flow tests so far all negative.
DS 4.5 will only tolerate the swab up both nostrils, not in his throat.
Is this enough to pick up a potential positive infection? I can get a pretty good swirl in both nostrils several times.
Just not sure if it's enough to pick up if he was positive?
Anyone had any positive swabs from doing it like this ?

What kind of test is it? The newer tests are nose only anyway.

Some tests are nose only anyway

Yes it's fine. Even the PCR test centre advises you to do nose only on a child.

Under 5s are exempt from daily testing but as pp say most newer lft are nasal anyway

dementedpixie · 31/12/2021 23:51

Even the nose and throat ones say you can do nose only as well for children

We did nose only on DS (age 6) and he was positive both using LFT and by PCR.

When my dd had it she tested positive on a throat and nose lft only doing her nose then confirmed on PCR only doing her nose too. My kids seem to have small mouths and fat tongues, I can't get anywhere near their tonsils 😆

My four year old hates the tests. I barely touched her nose with a lateral flow and it came up positive. When we went for her PCR again I barely touched her nose (and I’m fairly sure I swabbed the inside of her cheek instead of her throat) and she still got a positive result. I was so sure it would be void.
