No PCRs anywhere

My ds1 has just tested positive on a LFT he did prior to going out for NYE. He's tried to book a PCR but there are none available anywhere in the country and no postal ones either.

How is he supposed to confirm his test and will it affect his isolation period? He doesn't get paid if he doesn't work so he doesn't want to have to isolate for any more days than he has to.

It's been the same for days. Check periodically during the day as they seem to release tests/slots in batches

dementedpixie · 31/12/2021 13:27

Tests showing right now except for scotland

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 31/12/2021 13:27

Check at 7am, loads of availability this morning and he can put the date of his first symptoms

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 31/12/2021 13:28

Keep trying. There was some this morning for home delivery and a friend managed to get hers yesterday. Just luck of timing it seems

dementedpixie · 31/12/2021 13:28

Showing right now if you're still on

BertiesShoes · 31/12/2021 13:28

Check on your local council website if they have a mobile walk-in facility, no booking needed.

My DD got one this way yesterday, although no result yet so may take longer than normal for a result.

mummyh2016 · 31/12/2021 13:29

Check every hour. It took me 2 days to book DH PCR, it only took me a couple of hours yesterday to book mine and I got in the same day.

pollyparrot45 · 31/12/2021 13:30

Also it's the date from the lateral flow or symptoms starting that's used to count isolation.

So today will be day 0 and then 10 full days. You should still have it confirmed via PCR but it won't impact the isolation period.

pinkcattydude · 31/12/2021 13:31

Just been to local walk-in site they are taking appt and walk-ins and took 30 mins all done. Not sure how long results are taking

nancy75 · 31/12/2021 13:32

Do you have walk in centres? Every test centre here is doing appointments & walk ins

rosesarereddish · 31/12/2021 13:32

Can get them in boots where I am

TikTokBitches · 31/12/2021 13:33

Some centres are letting you walk in and get one.

Khara · 31/12/2021 13:38

Yes - he's just tried again and managed to get one fairly local (not the one that's 5 minutes away though!) When he first went on everything was saying unavailable but suddenly it's all green. Very odd.

There's a testing centre in my town but I had to travel 20 minutes yesterday to get my PCR as there were no appointments available there

7 days isolation not 10 in England
dementedpixie · 31/12/2021 13:49

Its only 7 days in England if you get negative LFT results on day 6 and 7. If it's still positive you keep isolating

Khara · 31/12/2021 14:10

Yeah - I know they should date it from the lateral flow but I thought I heard somewhere if it was more than two days between lft and PCR they dated it from the PCR.

Anyway he's gone for his PCR now so that's ok. Although he's gutted about NYE. He's completely asymptomatic at the moment.

Me and dh had covid at the beginning of the month and he never caught it from us. Can only assume that was delta (and his vaccines worked against it) and this is omicron. He only had his booster on Wednesday as well.
