Are my dc contacts based on this timeline?

Dc spent Xmas with dad - 23rd til 27th. I collected them 27th pm and they've been with me since.
Dad started symptoms yesterday morning 30th, and tested positive by LFT this morning. He will take PCR later today.

Dc have all done LFT this morning and negative at the mo. I've cancelled plans to see my parents just in case. I know that the test and trace people will work it out and contact me if necessary but I want to know what to expect and can't seem to find info on how long before symptoms people are 'contacts'.

Based on what they did while with him and what he did since he and I reckon he's caught it after they left but I obv want to be on safe side and also know how rules will affect us.

He's in London so it's prob Omicron, I assume.

I also don't want to waste LFTs unnecessarily but equally don't want to spread it around if we ought to be testing daily now.

Does anyone know if they are technically contacts?

I feel like the responsible thing is to test LFT daily for the next week regardless?

Yes, they are contacts as they were with him 3 days before he tested positive?

My dd was a contact on the last day of school, I just tested her daily for 5 days but didn’t isolate (carried on as normal, just tested every morning).

BewareTheRedNosedDragon · 31/12/2021 11:35

Ah, 3 days is it. I thought they would be but couldn't find info online. Will have to get more LFT then (if I can 😬)

I think it maybe 5 days….it used to be.

Thanks - is it 7 days daily testing for them from when his symptoms started, or when he tested positive do you know?

I thought it was contacts within 48 hours of symptoms starting? When I filled out track and trace for DC I had to put down what they had done/where they were in the 48 hours before symptoms started.

dementedpixie · 31/12/2021 11:54

They look at contacts in the 48 hours before symptoms so they aren't likely to be counted as contacts

ScarlettSunset · 31/12/2021 11:56

I also thought people were only contacts if they had been with the positive person within the 48 hours before they started symptoms.

dementedpixie · 31/12/2021 11:57

if you have had any close contact with anyone other than members of your household. We are interested in the 2 days before you developed symptoms and the time since you developed symptoms

Teaandcakeordeath83 · 31/12/2021 11:57

They only asked for two days of contacts before symptoms when my daughter got her positive on 21/12. Her symptoms started late on 19/12, tested midday 20/12, positive late 21/12. They went back to 18/12- I thought they'd go back to 17/12 and kept questioning it but they were quite insistent the 18th was correct. 🤷🏼‍♀️

We just had to do lateral flows daily for 7 days and the four people who she'd been in contact with outside the home were advised the same. We just ended up doing them only if we left the house to save tests. She got her negative LFTs on day 6&7 so could've ended isolation then but we all have a hideous cold too (apparently not covid 🤷🏼‍♀️) so we've stayed in anyway.

From www.gov.uk/guidance/nhs-test-and-trace-how-it-works

Teaandcakeordeath83 · 31/12/2021 12:00

For us we were told 7 days of LFTs from the day of the positive test. None of us got it so she was the only one in a house of two adults/ three young kids. No attempts or ability to isolate her/ maintain distance etc.

Verite1 · 31/12/2021 12:01

Yes - it’s 48 hours for test and trace, but obviously it is still possible (but less likely) for him to have been contagious even if not technically contacts. If you have LFT and are seeing vulnerable individuals I would test for next 2-3 days. Omicron tends to come on much quicker than delta so I think by then you would know as it will be 5-6 days post contact.

BewareTheRedNosedDragon · 31/12/2021 12:03

Oh thank you - I don't know why I could find that info @dementedpixie - Google skill fail 🤦‍♀️

We were supposed to be having new year day lunch with my parents and have cancelled, though dc were at their house yesterday when we didn't know so perhaps shutting stable door after horse has bolted. Don't know if we should still stay away from them now or not. We had planned to go for a walk with them as well and also cancelled that.

It's so hard to know what to do when it's so close. Prob best not to risk it.
