If you know someone in their fifties who has caught Covid in the past 2-3 weeks (so probably Omicron)...

...how are they?
Have seen lots of posts about people with relatively mild symptoms, but conscious that many of them may be a lot younger than 50. Interested in hearing about experiences of people in their fifties who have had (probable) Omicron (and whether they are boostered/double jabbed/unvaccinated).

My mum's been quite poorly with it, like bad flu. She's double vaccinated

MajesticWhine · 29/12/2021 23:04

I'm 50.
Tripled jabbed.
Probably omicron but can't be sure.
I tested positive on 23rd Dec I'm feeling 90% better now but it was quite nasty. I had a couple of days in bed. Would have been off sick for 4 or 5 days if It wasn't Christmas. Not even close to needing a doctor or a hospital though. Lots of paracetamol and ibuprofen.

Littlefish · 29/12/2021 23:04

My DH, 53, double jabbed and boosted. He had a sore throat and a bit of a bunged up nose for a few days, but that was it.

2 weeks after his positive PCR, he's just done a 'fit to fly' PCR and it's come back negative. He also had negative lateral flow tests from day 7.

NothingIsWrong · 29/12/2021 23:06

My BIL. 52 and type 1 diabetic. Was just a mild cold for a few days

Ifitistobesaid · 29/12/2021 23:06

@Mykittensmittens that’s awful. So sad.

MamaWeasel · 29/12/2021 23:07

My dh is in his 50s, he is on day 6. Slight cough, sneezing and a sniffle . Double vaxxed and boosted.

villanova · 29/12/2021 23:21

I'm 52, felt ill 14hrs after getting my booster (Moderna). Had chills, fluey feeling & head cold for 4 days, was testing daily but didn't come up positive until day 4 (LFT & PCR), felt fine by day 6. (Not able to separate out vaccine effects from cold & Covid!)
I'm overweight but very sporty, now feeling normal (apart from a bit of brain fug which might be menopausal!). No-one else in the household caught it.

Travelbug2 · 29/12/2021 23:37

I know four. My mum and her partner and my aunt and her husband. All said it was like a cold/flu and better after a week. Two fully vaccinated, two unvaccinated.

catfunk · 29/12/2021 23:50

My boss is 50, was double jabbed not boosted. Felt like shite for a week and said the headache was almost unbearable for a couple of days. Recovered fine. Kids had it too and barley felt it.

Mum090521 · 30/12/2021 00:28

Dsis. Had two doses and a booster. Was ill for a week but not too bad. Like a bad cold.

BeepBoopBop · 30/12/2021 00:40

DM, 80yo 2V - v poorly, she's in hospital.
DBIL 46yo 2V - poorly, home from 2 nights in hospital.
DSIS 40yo -UV - said she'd had worse colds.

MimosaFields · 30/12/2021 00:46

I'm almost 52 and got Omicron just before Christmas. I'm fine

LookslovelyinSpringtime · 30/12/2021 00:50

My brother. He was taken to hospital after having it ten days or so. Has just been released from hospital after a week. So he’s been ill for three weeks and is still very weak.

Juniper74 · 30/12/2021 00:52

DH 49yrs, fit & healthy was double vaccinated ,booster was booked..

In bed for 5 days then v unwell then In hospital for 48hrs on oxygen & antivirals etc. Still breathless even walking short distance and sleeping lots.

Don’t know for sure if omicron or delta though.

Cissyandflora · 30/12/2021 00:57

I’m 50s. Triple vaccinated. I’m on day 13 and currently at a and e awaiting test results. I have weakness and dizziness and apparently my heart is too fast. I didn’t have any cold or flu symptoms.

ChristmasSchmismas · 30/12/2021 01:13

I'm 44, unvaccinated and tested LTF positive on Christmas Day evening. I smoke and I could do with losing about 3 stones.
Body aches, chills, sweats, fever, headache and fatigue. Lasted 3 days but fatigue still hanging around. Today was the first day I didn't sleep in the afternoon but I did bed rest.
Dosed up on paracetamol and lots of fluids. I've had the flu 3 times in my life before this (I was younger, slimmer and fitter) and this time around didn't feel as bad.

countrygirl99 · 30/12/2021 04:58

FIL 83, CEV double jabbed but no booster. Completely asymptomatic, picked up.as he tests twice a week due to carers coming in and confirmed by PCR. CEV MIL ( also unboosted) hasn't caught it off him.

ashorterday · 30/12/2021 05:45

DH, early 50's had it. Absolutely fine, barely even noticed he had symptoms (I heard him cough a few times throughout the day and insisted he got a pcr.) No temp/headache/loss of smell and the cough was very mild.

HighlandCowbag · 30/12/2021 09:15

Dh, 54. He tested positive on 22nd. A heavy cold or mild flu. Was ill for first 4 days with a fever, cough, sore throat. Now just got a chesty cough and a bit congested.

I'm 44 and tested positive on a lft yesterday. Feel fine, bit of a tickly nose and tight chest but so far am fine.

chuffoff · 30/12/2021 09:28

DH 50, triple jabbed. Detected via lat flow (NHS worker so twice weekly tests), confirmed via PCR. Has just come out of isolation. Not a whisker of a symptom the whole time.

cumulonimbus523 · 30/12/2021 09:34

My parents have it now (early 60s), generally healthy though mum has some lung issues. Had their booster just over a week before testing positive. Slight temperature which only lasted a few hours (mum), and tiredness/very mild cold symptoms apart from that. Three days into it both of them felt fine.

LookslovelyinSpringtime · 30/12/2021 09:37

Why are so many people getting Covid despite the booster? The vaccines are nowhere near as effective as we are being told. Yes, symptoms are milder , but they aren’t giving immunity.

DedafalalalalalusBloom · 30/12/2021 09:40

I'm 51
Double jabbed, hadn't got round to booster as work shifts plus other illness was making me wait
Tested positive three days ago. ( DH just coming out the other side so it was inevitable I'd probably get it) Just feels like a bad cold. Skin itchy, can't taste much but apart from that no problem.

Jacaranda75 · 30/12/2021 09:42

@LookslovelyinSpringtime no one is saying they give immunity. The point is to reduce the risk of giving it to others and ending up in hospital.

LeuvenMan · 30/12/2021 09:43

59, triple vaccination.
Fatigue and mild flu like symptoms. Still positive LFT's on day 8
Wasn't informed on PCR results however what strain it was (I don't think all PCR tests are checked for variant type, only a certain % for modelling purposes?)
