Does anyone know any reassuring stats around covid hospital admissions my FIL recently tested positive he's 65 otherwise healthy and he's had all x3 vaccinations but he's got really bad health anxiety so I don't know if it would offer him any reassurance - I'm sure there are stats I can Google but my brain doesn't work v well with figuring it out

Sorry if this is a daft Q I just want to try and reduce his anxiety

Our local ccg and council issue stats on cases and admissions every few days. Will be skewed by the Christmas break currently though.

Boris just said you are 8 times more likely to need to go to hospital if you’ve not had all vaccines.

He’s tested positive - is he even sick? I think you’re getting a bit ahead of yourselves with hospitalisation statistics. There must be better ways of alleviating his health anxiety? Turn the news of for starters.

If you're looking to reassure him the numbers I've been most comforted by is the icu / ventilator cases.

They are flat / down Uk wide and even in London, where omicron got hold first they are just fractionally up.

My read on this is that so far (& it's early days with omicron) the huge numbers of people testing positive isn't translating to serious illness.
