The no-mask coughing crew

Genuinely intrigued as to others opinions on this group of people.
We went out to a busy indoor event last night where everyone was supposed to be wearing masks. I appreciate some are exempt & that's is absolutely okay - however many of the 'exempt' crew were coughing & spluttering whilst sat next to others wearing their masks.

What would you have done in this situation? Said anything to the people? or the venue?
The venue also didn't check vaccination status/ negative test result OR have anyone actually enforcing the mask law.

I wouldn’t have said anything, I very much doubt the coughers would have donned masks or left . If I was worried about catching anything, I would have gone home.

How do you suggest the venue actually enforces the mask law?

We cannot control others. Only ourselves. That’s how I make my decisions nowadays.

The reason they were coughing could also have been the reason they're exempt.

I'd have done what I'd have done pre-pandemic and moved away or turned away from someone coughing if possible.

TBH, if you’re willing to go to a busy indoor event at the moment then you have to be ok with the risk of catching covid. Mask wearers can also spread covid.

People are allowed to cough. Why would you automatically assume that someone who coughs has covid? I can't imagine living with this level of constant anxiety about a mild illness. It must be exhausting.

Some people are exempt because they have the kind of breathing difficulties that also cause a continuous cough.

I wear a FFP2 mask to protect myself. Would have kept a distance from the non mask wearers.

Moving from cold to warm makes me cough

Moving from warm to cold makes me cough

Being surrounded by strong perfumes/deodorant/aftershave/air freshener makes me cough

Air being too dry makes me cough

Air being too warm makes me cough..it also triggers life threatening asthma attacks.

I don't wear a mask because breathing of all of the above.

I wouldn’t have cared at all. I think that if you go to a busy event at the moment you are risking covid regardless of masks and vaccination status.

Absolutely true, DH is just the same.

I wouldn’t have noticed as I’d have been so busy enjoying the event.

People cough for reasons other than Covid. My husband has had a cough for weeks (6 weeks) but isn't unwell. Double jabbed. It turns out it's a side effect from a tablet he's on, so the GP is going to change it for something else.

I do wear a mask, however I am constantly coughing when doing most things and have been this way since having covid in November.
