Where do you think you caught it?

Over the last week I’ve heard of so many people getting Covid. Obviously over the last 2 years there have been huge numbers.

We don’t think we’ve had it in this house. I WFH full-time, 2 teenage children school/college, 1 with a part time job, husband works full time for the police. We do adhere to masks etc, but also eat out regularly, supermarkets etc. We don’t meet up with friends much and our families are overseas/100s and 100s of miles away.

Is it just luck or are we doing something different (I’m thinking the socialising)? If you’ve had it/have it right now, how do you think you picked it up?

Anyone?

I've not had it but from people I know the route has been via a train journey, school and pub.

My seemingly healthy relative in her 70s died from covid and we still cant fathom how she got it as she was staying home to protect her husband who had heart problems. He didnt catch it.

Gobolino80 · 27/12/2021 19:23

Tested positive this morning. I did an LFT after a call from a work colleague to say that he had tested positive. He came to ours for Christmas Day. Pretty sure we bought caught it at the pub we work in either on Xmas Eve or in the days leading up to it, I haven't been anywhere else apart from the pub or home. A couple of the regulars have tested positive too.

kickupafuss · 27/12/2021 19:24

I got it from DD who must have got it in school as there were lots of cases.

MrsBlondie · 27/12/2021 19:25

Via my 9 year old and school

DopesickSis · 27/12/2021 19:25

From DS14 who picked it up at school.

starrynight19 · 27/12/2021 19:26

From my class in school

Puffalicious · 27/12/2021 19:28

It's completely random and I don't reckon it's socialising. I got a positive lateral on Xmas morning, confirmed PCR result by Boxing day. Hadn't been anywhere since 22nd no socialising as keeping energy for super busy and fun 25th and 26th. Obviously we've had a completely ruined festive time- food to waste and much sadness. I'm really quite ill and in bed still.

I'm a teacher so I imagine I've picked it up in school despite being very vigilant. This is the 2nd time I've had it and I'm seriously pissed off.

SonicBroom · 27/12/2021 19:30

From DD via school.

RiskyCookie · 27/12/2021 19:30

No idea, wasn't from anyone we see regularly like family. I'd just strarted working in a nursery so feel that may of contributed. Can't be sure though.

Tifalockhart · 27/12/2021 19:32

I work in a school and we had many cases leading up to the holidays in staff, parents and children so I am not at all surprised I caught it. It has been far worse than I imagined though and I am dreading catching it again.

DsRevision · 27/12/2021 19:39

My theory is that those who seem to have missed it fall into 3 camps

  1. the ultra cautious - still not going to shops etc

  2. those who don’t have school age kids and don’t have to go out to work.

  3. those who are acting normally, working etc But I think these ( like you) have actually had it. Either early on before testing was available or they were asymptomatic

Bunnyfuller · 27/12/2021 19:51

Both DDs had weird rashes in the summer of 2020 (one was poss Covid Toe, the other just a weird rash) and then I got a rash that looked like shingles but didn’t hurt.

Weirdly that was when we were in full lockdown tho.

Otherwise colds etc but negative tests every time.

We caught it via our son. His bubble broke at nursery, about 6 days before his symptoms started. This eas December 2020.

DigitalGhost · 27/12/2021 20:01

Midwife/doctors appointment in April 2020.
No doubt will have caught it again in the next few days as we were the only ones to bother to test on Xmas day before the big family gathering.

KurtWildesChristmasNamechange · 27/12/2021 20:02

From a HCP at the GP surgery

littlepeas · 27/12/2021 20:02

I caught it in my house from my ds. He caught it from school - probably his teacher.

AntennaReborn · 27/12/2021 20:05

From DD (year 6)

I have been WFH since the first lockdown, and only go to a very quiet gym where I am never near anyone and I sanitise everything I touch

Bananarice · 27/12/2021 20:05

Ds1 school sent an email saying he had been a close contact.

Dh works in a hospital and has been commuting via London 🚉

interesting theory. However I think I fall into a 4th camp. I'm not being ultra cautious. Been out and about a fair bit, restaurants, they're etc. I work in health care seeing 20 or 30 patients a day, so getting constantly exposed. And I've also conducted antibody tests, so I know I didn't get any antibodies prior to my first vaccine a year ago ( ie never had Covid).

I think no 4 is probably along the lines of probs my have some sort of inherent immunity, which makes me less susceptible.

By the way just to add, I'm not entirely sure how healthy this thread is, although interesting. I think focussing on how you got Covid, or who gave it to you, could potentially be problematic. At the end of the day, a virus is gonna do what a virus does

About10thusername · 27/12/2021 20:07

We're the same. I don't understand how we haven't had it yet. We have school age children, are quite relaxed about socialising and often eat out and do things that could be seen as risky (soft play / swimming etc / train / bus travel).
I realise we might have had it without knowing but I'd love to know for sure.

Teafirst · 27/12/2021 20:07

From DS at school. The siblings of a positive test no longer have to isolate, so the Y6 brother of a boy on DS's table tested positive on the Thursday, he was in, then tested positive on the Monday night. My DS (and the rest of the table) told to get tested and tested positive between Wednesday and Friday. Our DS2 on Saturday, DH on the next Wednesday. I am putting all my hope in my booster. And prayer.

MummyMe87 · 27/12/2021 20:08

First time I think from two friends I was eating out with pre first lock down as they both were really sick with it a week after we met, second time work (I’m a midwife) and third time I think possibly hairdressers

LittleBabyCheeses · 27/12/2021 20:09

Only place I’d been in the period leading up to testing positive was the supermarket and a garden centre. Everyone else in the house negative.

SiulaGrande · 27/12/2021 20:09

Either from DD at secondary school, she was asymptomatic, or my one train journey to London that week. All of us had it beginning of this month, varying degrees of ill but not serious.
