Aching hips and knees - anyone else?

PurpleCushions · 26/12/2021 21:03

I took a lat flow every day for the week leading up to Christmas to ensure we were all ok for family coming over. All negative.

During the evening yesterday I kept getting sore hips/legs but I was also down on the floor playing/building toys and a few times I commented that it must be old age creeping up!

This morning I woke up and felt like I'd been hit with a truck - did a lat flow and strong positive right away! Aaargh!!

Where I am there are no test centres opened so having to wait til tomorrow to do a pcr. Everyone else has so far tested neg on a lat flow. But I'm assuming I do have covid.

The pain in my hips and knees is so bad! My wrists to a lesser extent too. Just wondering if anyone else had this and if there was anything that helped. Paracetamol isn't touching it and feel like I'm too warm for heat pads but should maybe give it a go!

Yeah those microwave heat pads or ibuprofen rather than paracetamol are good. Bath with Epsom Salts. I had these symptoms after the bloody booster!! How weird.

Watto1 · 26/12/2021 21:41

Yes, this was my main symptom when I had Covid. I spent a week almost permanently in the bath as it was the only relief I got. Funnily enough, it was my only side effect after my first vaccination too.

Autumnalblooms · 26/12/2021 21:43

I tested positive the end of last week and I had that and also awful lower back pain. At one point I literally didn't know what to do with myself so I truly feel for you.I said I felt like I was being ripped apart . I am over the worst now. If you are running a temp a hot water bottle wouldn't be the best idea but if you're not it might be worth a try. All my lateral flows were neg even on the day my pcr came back positive I do both more than weekly for work. I hope you feel better soon Flowers

Autumnalblooms · 26/12/2021 21:45

Sorry just re read heat pads not hot water bottle lack of sleep thanks covid 🙈.

catchingzzzeds · 26/12/2021 21:57

Yes I had awful aches and pains, hot baths and a heat pad were the only things that eased it a bit

Waftypants · 26/12/2021 21:59

Lower back pain for me. And a really heavy head.

FindingMeno · 26/12/2021 22:00

Yes I had aches.
Still get aching knees and legs at night over 2 months later which is annoying.

Andoffwego · 26/12/2021 22:16

Yes. Absolutely awful pain in my hips, legs, lower back and wrists. I had this for nearly a week before I had a positive lateral flow test and the day before that I’d spoken to my GP because I was in so much pain and he wanted to do tests for rheumatoid arthritis because it sounded like that. I cannot stress how much pain I was in. The night before I started with cold symptoms (5 days after the joint pain started), my legs stopped being able to hold me up because of the pain. I wish I’d known that this is a symptom of Covid because I’d been all over the place with these symptoms before the cold type stuff started.

Dimsimmum · 26/12/2021 22:32

Yes sorry my symptoms soon with covid. A few days of aches in hips and knees. Hope you get better soon OP, just keep up with the paracetamol !

claireymrsd · 26/12/2021 22:40

My daughter started this morning with really aching knees and a fever.
Took her for a pcr this afternoon. Lft currently negative.

As the day has gone on she's felt progressively worse, with legs hurting particularly badly and other aches and pains (neck, head, fingers, toes)

PurpleCushions · 26/12/2021 22:50

Thanks all, nice to know I'm not alone but sorry you are all suffering too.

I'll try heat pads tonight, although I feel like I've just managed to bring my temp down so a bit worried about being hot again but also don't know what to do to get comfy so worth the risk I think!

I will try a bath tomorrow, didn't even think of that actually so top tip. Thank you.

Need to drive to test centre tomorrow so hoping it has eased off a little, if not I'll whack on the heated seat and hope for the best!

Yep, me! Done two LFTs both neg. but have chest pain and an on/off cough plus DD tested positive early Xmas day on an LFT So am assuming I'm positive and isolating accordingly (PCR ordered). Hip pain was awful yesterday! Don't know how I got through the day! It's gone today thankfully. In fact symptoms seem to be receding - hoping that's the booster doing its thing.

Lovingmylife · 26/12/2021 23:40

Oh this pain is me. I've booked a PCR now reading this. I can't move for pain.. I'm in agony..

Lindy2 · 26/12/2021 23:54

I had very achey knees. Itvwas my first symptom followed by a sore throat. My original test was negative but when I got more symptoms and tested again it was positive. I found warm baths very soothing. I spent a lot of time in the bath.

I hope you feel better soon.

CasparBloomberg · 27/12/2021 00:25

Yep and 18 months later it’s still my most consistent symptom of long covid too. Heat pads and ibuprofen are all I use to manage it.
GP did put me on short course of steroids after my hands/wrists completely seized up and everything now works, but I still have the pain.

PurpleCushions · 27/12/2021 11:13

Thanks all. Just been for my pcr, but assuming it will be positive after the lateral flow.

Everything still really hurting. Will try heat again. It's ridiculous, I had to sit in the car for a bit to work up the energy to get back into the house. Feel about 100!

Hope everyone starts to feel better Thanks

I'm on day 6 and had this the first 2 days. More in my hips than anywhere else. Paracetamol and Ibuprofen. It disappeared quite quickly though.

PurpleCushions · 27/12/2021 12:07

Oh I'm glad to hear it passed quite quickly for you. Hopefully today will be the last day of it. Hope you're feeling better now.

Lovingmylife · 27/12/2021 22:15

How are you feeling OP? My pain is on and off. I had a negative lft but took a PCR this morning anyway.

amicissimma · 27/12/2021 22:21

Dr Angelique Coetzee was on the radio earlier today saying that the majority of omicron covid cases she was aware of were presenting with musculo-skeletal symptoms, rather than respiratory ones.

DontPeeInThePlayHouse · 27/12/2021 22:24

Yes, but more my lower back, elbows, one thumb and one knee. Also had night sweats, fever, cough, sore throat, and headaches. But, negative everything. It's just a bastard fluey cold. Which actually really annoys me as it's likely covid will hit soon and I'll jump from feeling like crap to feeling like crap again Sad

Pinkandpink · 27/12/2021 23:30

Yes I was tested positive on the 8th December and the first two days were very sore hips and legs. It was horrible.

PurpleCushions · 28/12/2021 10:54

Official positive pcr result in this morning.

Hips and joint pain have definitely eased up a bit now, it's more on and off than constant. Feel like it is all mostly in my head like a heavy head cold now.

Hope everyone is on the mend soon!
