It was rumoured that there would be one today introducing restrictions from 27th/28th wasn't it. No news is good news I guess...

That was always highly unlikely. No stats out today. Next lot of stats on infections and hospitalisations due tomorrow afternoon.

I have only ever read it will be on the 27th at the earliest

Boris will be discussing it tommorrow. I expect we will find out on the 28th.

The data from these days of xmas mixing will be out quite quick due to transmissibility.

But I imagine it'll be Tuesday or weds before the data shows the outcome of mixing. Then we should also have the initial data from the beginning of the wave re hospitalisations and deaths.

So I think Tuesday/weds they'll discuss it and announcements will come Thursday/Fri to start the Monday when everyone starts to go back to school/work.

Reason being is that right now the economy is thriving and if hospitalisations aren't too high they can hold off for longer. Have those at home spending their cash in shops and restaurants etc.

I doubt they'll be many restrictions as most won't through parliament.

If anything it'll be limits if mixing, table service , wfh and masks in indoor spaces. So what we have now with a little extra added on.

Maybe a return to school testing regime.

When a new variant arises that is more transmissable it replaces the existing pathogen, as seen in South Africa. As transmissability increases, virulence usually (but not always) falls. So Omicron may be our best Christmas present ever. Left unchecked the wave with be through the UK by January 22 to 29 and we can rebuild the economy. Lockdown either by legislation or fear will merely flatten and elongate the wave. I doubt in a vaccinated population we will end up with many fewer infections but we will end up with more unemployment and poverty.
