Does the 7 day rule apply from onset of symptoms (Tuesday) if all your lateral flows have all been negative anyway?

Both my kids are positive and was told from the start of symptoms ,but you are supposed to have negative LFTt, s to go out after 7 days so I don't know how it works in your situation
This is interesting ,as I also have symptoms and keep getting negative LFT,s 🤔I'm isolating anyway ,going to have to book a PCR.

I know someone who got a positive PCR but it took 5 days for the LFT to show a positive. LFT are not as sensitive.

Cookerhood · 25/12/2021 19:13

Yes I believe it's from symptoms even if lateral.flow negative.

ExcaliburBaby · 25/12/2021 19:14

I know someone who tested positive on PCR but had daily negative LFTs. She never tested positive on a LFT!

I tested positive on a PCR on Wednesday and haven't had a positive lft yet. Mild symptoms. I've been doing daily lfts to see when one might appear.

Leftbutcameback · 25/12/2021 20:49

I had covid (positive PCR) and never had a positive LFT. Not the whole way through. It's not relevent though for timescales for isolating.

MajesticWhine · 25/12/2021 21:03

Yes I'm the same. Have not had a positive lat flow. Your 7 day count starts the day after symptoms start.

Ifartglitterybaubles · 25/12/2021 21:46

I tested positive on a PCR today, I've been doing daily lfts since last Saturday when DH was positive and they have all been negative.

BFPDec21 · 25/12/2021 22:29

Thanks, at least I know I would be able to visit family.

What worries me is DD and DH were in close contact with the person I've picked it up from (the only person I'd seen in weeks apart from the school run at a distance). I only sat/stood across a table from them. DH and DD tested negative on their PCR tests and lateral flows are negative. I expect they do have it but it's not been picked up at the right point. They clearly have symptoms.

Similar position here, dc is on day 5 since (very mild) symptoms started, all LFTs have been negative, but she tested positive on a PCR (tested on Wednesday, results through Xmas Eve). She did another LFT this morning out of interest and is still negative. So unless something very odd happens tomorrow, she is very likely to test negative on days 6 & 7 and so end isolation early. There are 5 others in our house, all doing LFTs daily since dc's positive result, but so far all negative (and no symptoms). The whole thing has made me really doubt the effectiveness of LFTs - or could it just be that dc's viral load has stayed really low throughout and that's why the rest of us haven't caught out?!? Who knows.

DS had all negative LFTs even when PCR was positive, doctor friend suggested maybe he actually had it a few weeks ago asymptomatically and currently just has a mild cold, because PCR results show positive for up to ninety days but LFT don't
