Immunity afterwards

I’m going to get out of isolation soon.

After 21 months of being scared of catching it and the inevitable happening at the worst possible time, am I right to think I can basically waft around enclosed shopping centres and public transport for the next ninety ish days without having to worry?

Kind of wish I’d time for a foreign holiday now…

I felt like that after a nasty dose of covid in August. Wish I'd thought of the foreign holiday Grin
Make the most of it because the feeling wears off.
Someone will be along to say that not everyone makes antidodies but I paid for mine to be checked and they were off the scale.

NuffSaidSam · 24/12/2021 16:33

Mumsnet is full of people who have had it twice in the space of a few weeks/months. It looks like Omicron is able to reinfect very quickly, so I think you've got to lay off licking people for a while yet.

bumblefeline · 24/12/2021 16:36

I think you can get omicron after delta or even at the same time although I bloody hope not.

DH lasted a year before reinfection.

I tested positive on 29th November. I went out last Saturday and everyone I was sigh has tested positive and has symptoms whereas my daily lateral flows have been negative and I feel fine so I think I must have immunity from my infection.

That’s good.

I wouldn't risk a foreign holiday even if you did have time - is it not the case that you can get a false positive on a PCR test for quite a while after Covid, which would mean you might be turned away or quarantined when you try to travel abroad?

LittleBabyCheeses · 25/12/2021 22:45

I’ve had covid twice and 3 vaccines, I surely must have some bloody immunity now? 😂

Me too!
CharlotteRose90 · 25/12/2021 23:19

I’m currently positive and I’ve had both jabs. I hope I don’t get it twice as I feel bloody awful.

LividLaVidaLoca · 26/12/2021 07:59

@LittleBabyCheeses was it easier or worse second time round?

Surely in theory you’d only have it mildly? I hope…?

OP posts:
LittleBabyCheeses · 26/12/2021 08:39

First time (pre vaccines) I had a high temp and a cough. Second time (after 3 jabs) I felt really fluey, achey limbs, reflux, fatigue and cough but no temp. Had to spend a day in bed.
I’d actually say I felt worse second time, but both times were mild.

Thievesoil · 26/12/2021 08:44

This is odd as we had it mildly in 2020 (two days of feeling a bit off, sat by the fire).

The kids have now just had it and I didn’t test positive but had a headache. DH - nothing

We are all unvaccinated. So either we have been lucky or nearly two years in and we have some immunity

I think it’s more complex than anyone really knows yet

DH tested negative when I had it the first time (unvaccinated) and second (both 3 x vaccinated), as did DD1. DD2 avoided it the first time I had it, but has tested positive this time (no symptoms). Weird 🤷🏻‍♀️

Following as we have been super careful for two years and I t bloody got us over Christmas - the shit. Now I want to lord it up and have holidays and rave (jokes)….but would be nice to do more stuff again x

LividLaVidaLoca · 26/12/2021 09:42

Let’s rave @Lovemylittlebear.

I’m getting almost irrationally irate at the thought BJ might bring in new restrictions while I could be glorying in Being Out.

Feeling a lot like a prisoner today tbh Confused

We had it totally asymptomatically in the first wave (found through antibody testing), been a close contact 5+ times including one night sharing drinks with someone who tested positive less than 6 hours later never had a positive test. We've stopped the LF testing so doubt we will get it again regardless of how high cases get.

ArianaG · 26/12/2021 09:53

I had (presumably) delta in late Sept, felt a bit rough for 3 days but quite mild. I was doubly vaccinated.
I have been exposed to covid frequently since (work as a TA in specialist education) and more recently exposed several times to what I suspect is omicron due to people's symptoms and haven't caught it. I suspect that prior infection has been protective in some way and I have had the booster too.

I am still resigned to catching omicron though at some point, hoping it will be mild.

Lovemylittlebear · 26/12/2021 10:09

Out of interest how do people know which one they have got? I have a bad head, snotty and snuffly, sore eyes and my chest is quite painful. Husband just snuffly but feels fine, son has tummy pain. No one has a temp, cough or change in taste/smell? Currently on day 3 of isolation x

middleager · 26/12/2021 10:13

I'm not so sure..
If you had Omicron you could get Delta or vice versa.
I had Delta in September, just three months after 2nd jab, and assumed I might be ok for a bit - until Omicron came along and the news came out that Delta offers no protection against this!

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 26/12/2021 10:32

We had two jabs, covid in November, boosters mid December.. and have just been skiing for a week. Resorts are super spreader events, mask wearing was a bit hopeless. We've had negative LFTs al, along, and just had negative 'test to release' pcr results too. Quick... go on holiday!
