Scared to test

Yes I know I'm being ridiculous and I will do a lft as we're seeing family, some vulnerable, over Christmas.

No symptoms, partner tested negative this morning so no reason to believe it would be positive but just not sure I'd cope if it was and I had to isolate over Christmas. My mental health has taken a battering this year.

Anyone else feeling the same?

Haha yes, but I just did one before travelling to see elderly relatives and it was negative, I'm sure yours will be too! And if it wasn't you'd want to know, right?

Just do it and then the worry will be over.

Largethighsbadeyes · 23/12/2021 09:42

Yep! I woke up at 5.30 this morning worrying because we had said we would do tests today before seeing family over Christmas.

Couldn't get back to sleep so just got up and did it.

Checked it obsessively every few minutes but it was negative and I feel much better now. OH test negative too.

I understand what you are saying about mental health OP. Some people may see it as silly but for me having to cancel because of a positive test would have ruined Christmas. I really need to be with family this year

PineConeWar · 23/12/2021 09:44

Yes! It's daft how nervous a test makes you. DD was too - we just tested her and it's negative. About to call MIL and tell her.

Whathefisgoingon · 23/12/2021 09:46

Just an FYI. The advice online is to test immediately before the event, not the morning of or the night before.

With Omicron you can go from non infectious to infectious within hours.

Not scared to test, we have been super careful and always are.

CaptainCarp · 23/12/2021 09:49

Yes! I've had to test for 2 hospital appointments this week & was kind of nervous each time.
Currently waiting to see if the relative I'm meant to be going to gets a negative pcr as they had a cough yesterday... I am gutted that for the 2nd year i might not get Christmas with my family.

I know it's "just 1 day" but its not often we all manage to get together, as my brother was meant to be staying with above relative so I miss out seeing him as well.

CaptainCarp · 23/12/2021 09:50

Whatthefisgoingon i thought the morning would be better but hospital asks for a test 24hrs before!

trackand · 23/12/2021 09:53

I know the feeling. I tested positive last Thursday so allowed out of isolation if I have a negative LFT today and tomorrow. So far they have still been positive. I feel so nervous to test again today SadI feel absolutely fine

daisyducky · 23/12/2021 09:54

Yep!

CirreltheSquirrel · 23/12/2021 09:57

Yes! Neither of us have been anywhere other than solo walks since Sunday because we're seeing a 95 year old relative tomorrow but I'm still nervous about the test and trying to decide whether to wait til tomorrow so it's closer, or do it tonight so at least we have a bit more time to come up with a plan b.

Travellingraspberry · 23/12/2021 10:21

Glad I'm not alone in feeling like this!

@Whathefisgoingon that is valid point. I just want to know if I'm currently positive as gives me time to get a PCR test and make a plan b if needed but you're right even if I test negative today doesn't mean I wouldn't tomorrow 😬

I felt like this-we all tested before doing out this morning and DD is positive. Glad we tested as I’d rather know but Xmas is now ruined Sad

tigerbear · 23/12/2021 10:32

Same here @Redlocks28
We are all got neg tests on Tuesday, but DD tested positive yesterday 😔

Travellingraspberry · 23/12/2021 13:13

Oh no! @Redlocks28 and @tigerbear gutted for you. Hope you can salvage some sort of Christmas day.

Crackingowlsanctuary · 23/12/2021 13:37

@Redlocks28 @tigerbear plenty of us in the same boat so you’re not alone! (Not that it makes us feel any better!) me and my ds tested positive at the weekend but it was already in our household so not as unexpected.

I know it’s hard but try to embrace the quiet christmas, no one to entertain, relax in your pjs all day if you want! I guess I have had longer to get my head around it as it’s been in our house since 2 weeks ago so was always a big possibility for it sweeping through us. It is what it is and I’m sure next Christmas will be ‘normal’ for us all again x

Potatodrivers · 23/12/2021 13:58

I'm dreading testing us all on Christmas morning for my dads sake more than anything. I would have no issue isolating with the kids over Christmas, but if one of us test positive then my dad will be alone and he has been really looking forward to this.
We will test, but im feeling a bit meh about it as it feels like 1 out of 4 will be positive even though there's no symptoms.

tigerbear · 23/12/2021 14:14

Thanks @Travellingraspberry @Crackingowlsanctuary
@Potatodrivers - same - DD is with DH and I at my mum’s house, so we can’t really isolate from her (she’s sharing a room with DD!), but my dad and my mum’s partner each live alone, so they’ll not technically be allowed to come over to spend Christmas Day with us at my mum’s house as planned.
Both are saying they’re not bothered about Covid, and still want to come 😬

CirreltheSquirrel · 23/12/2021 19:14

We've just done ours ahead of tomorrow - negative Smile

'Super careful' or not you can still catch it 🙄
CaptainCarp · 24/12/2021 16:58

Not sure you meant to quote me there @LifesTooShortYOLO i know how easy this 1 is to catch! I also wouldn't say we have been "super" careful as I've been out shopping rather than online.
