Symptoms my GP recommends testing for!

I've just transferred doctors and been looking at their website this afternoon - it says new runny nose, headache, sore throat, fatigue, cough or fever can be signs of Omicron and to get a PCR, not LFT! This is obviously more than the three main symptoms the government say to test for. The Zoe app was saying the other day if you live in London and have cold symptoms, it's more likely to be covid.

Just thought I'd mention as many (including myself) are reluctant to test for other symptoms as we don't want to waste PCR capacity and the cost.

My Dr wants a pcr for everything I needed to get my thyroid checked and was booking my routine blood tests the receptionist asked me what my symptoms were I said...the Dr asked me to book an appointment for routine bloods she said yes but what are your symptoms?.....umm none because its hopefully controlled by my meds? can I book an appointment? I'm not sure I need to consult with my colleague see if you need a PCR first 🤔

new runny nose, headache, sore throat, fatigue, cough or fever

I live in Germany and these symptoms have been on the list and triggered a PCR test since last winter. Plus the usual loss of taste/smell.

My brother (in a third country) had delta a couple of months ago. His main symptoms were a sore throat and headache, he wouldn’t have tested if the guidelines said fever/cough/senses, or he wasn’t a close contact. He lost his smell and taste, but only 6 days after testing positive. He could’ve been out and about with a ‘cold’, had those symptoms not gotten him a PCR.

My toddlers have had those symptoms all winter and I'm certainly not going to be torturing them with PCR tests every week!

BrunoJenkins · 22/12/2021 16:40

The cold symptoms I mean. I have PCR tested them for a fever

It's a good idea. I have covid and it's been like a cold. The government need to update the measly 3 symptoms.

I don't know how people are 2 years in and still haven't come across this info 🤔 I think I read this commonly, within 8 months of covid being in the media.... Is it not better to be safe than sorry and just get a pcr done when feeling unwell in a pandemic?

new runny nose, headache, sore throat, fatigue, cough or fever

Apart from the fever I have those a variety of those symptoms all the time so I'm not sure what they'd expect me to do!

Ive got a runny nose and fatigue and had a positive LFT as did DH. We are isolating as we know we have it.

Back in July I tested positive with the same symptoms. Never got a cough or temp and only lost my sense of smell and taste 3 days after my positive PCR. The other day I felt similar so went to get a PCR (negative). I thought cold like symptoms were common knowledge (despite the governments official ones)
