Positive Lateral flow, negative PCR AGAIN?!

I'm really at a loss. Here's the story. For background I live in the North East of England and am fully jabbed up. We test twice weekly.
Sept 21, I open a box of nose only Lateral flows (first time I'd ever used just nose) and it's positive! after about 10 positive Lateral flows from 4 different (nose only) boxes I had 3 negative PCR results ..this was over about 10 days. I did tests from throat and nose kit....always negative.
My husband and children also did tests from boxes and their LF and PCR all negative (tested due to weekly testing). Test and trace said go with PCR

About 2 weeks later my son tested positive on LF and PCR I tested again and shocker positive with nose only negative with throat and nose...neg PCR.

Since then I have consistently tested positive on nose LF and negative on nose throat. The second line has gradually got fainter and last week was nearly gone/hardly visible.

This week, son who didn't catch covid has a bad cough cold. Neg LF but to be safe did PCR also negative. I started to feel rubbish so did LF (nose only as the line had been getting fainter) and boom big red lines back....went for PCR guess what.... negative!

What the actual Frigg is going on?! Any scientists out there can help. How am I supposed to go anywhere if I can't show a negative LF or proof of immunity due to having had Covid? I'm honestly at a loss.

Anyone else been through this?

Are they flowflex LFTs? I also show faint positive with them but when I go for a PCR it's always negative

Also I'm in the north east as well. It's odd but very common with the flowflex ones.

SushiGo · 22/12/2021 05:21

Might sound silly, but are you reading the lft instructions carefully for each pack?

We have 3 different types in the house at the moment. One you have to leave at least 30mins to read the result, another you have to read the result BEFORE 30 mins and chuck it after that because they go weird after that and look like positives when they're not...

Watapalava · 22/12/2021 07:13

If you are fully jabbed you wont need to show immunity or negative test

Wagedogsbody · 22/12/2021 07:15

Yes the flowflex always show positive! @sushiGo I follow the instructions like s pro after all the positives followed by negative results, it was only when I started using these (sent in post not collected) that the positives show. If I use the nose and throat ones the result matches the PCR.
I wonder do flowflex pick up on colds or a different flu virus?
Problem is, if they continue to show positive after PCR negative....and you have to use LF to get into places (or return to UK 2 days before you fly) how on earth does that work for me? 😬

I had this issue with the original boxes of lateral flow tests. Always a faint positive line. I can use the flowflex or orient gene ones though and they show proper negative. As I have to test for work, I spent about 10 months doing a weekly PCR instead!

It's a nightmare! What are they picking up on?

No idea! It’s really inconvenient. Especially if you have to do daily lateral flows for a contact or something.
