Why was the booster jab not called the 3rd jab? If we have a 4th jab what will it be called, the 2nd booster?

I think it’s because some CEV people have 3 doses and then a booster. So the booster for them is their 4th jab.

I think because there’s an actual 3rd jab for the more vulnerable and boosters for everyone else. I stand corrected though.

My covid records and my card all have the same vaccine product listed and the app even says dose 1, dose 2, dose 3.

In vaccination schedule terms, the initial course i.e. dose 1 and dose 2 etc are the ones required to confer initial immunity.

Booster doses are ones given after an initial course when there is an increased risk of infection for example after potential Tetanus exposure.

They're not exactly the same, but another purpose of starting the numbering again could be to make it sound like fewer jabs overall

This might convince some who are hesitant about having dose after dose after dose, the number of whom - at least on here - seems to be pretty siginficant

The 3rd jab is technically called the third primary vaccination. It’s part of the primary vaccination regime for this group. They need three primary jabs followed by a booster. The rest of us are two primary jabs followed by a booster.

The moderna booster is a ½ dose so not the same as a primary dose

I quizzed the person doing my booster extensively about this. She said my booster was a full dose of Pfizer. I had thought it would be a half dose (for no particularly good reason other than I thought "booster" suggested it was just a little top up!)

To be precise, some of them are a different dose. Moderna is, the others actually aren’t, but they are used in a different way, gaps and so on.

What happens with tetanus?
I think you have the first jabs as a child but then a booster every few years if you have an accident? DH was recently bitten by a dog and the GP said he was last boosted ten years ago so needed another.

So if I've had AZ, AZ and moderna, what is my little half dose working with to protect me? Surely I needed moderna first and second time around for the half dose to be of any use?.

Lots of trials of different combinations showed MRNA booster best regardless of initial vaccine.
Moderna is reported as giving a stronger response than pfizer.
I would choose Moderna over any of the others given the choice (I wasn't.)

I had AZ, AZ and Moderna and like you wondered how effective it would be, but like SecretSantaSquirrels said, Moderna seems to the most effective booster. If it makes you feel any better I caught covid recently, 2 weeks after my booster, and it was like a very mild cold.

I assume the scientist people developing the vaccines have worked out that the Moderna booster dose doesn't need to be as big, for whatever reason, even when combined with other brands.

On my nhs app, in the medications section, my doses aren't numbered.

On another side note, I wonder why the nhs app doesn't record the flu vaccines etc you get in the medicines section like they do the covid vaccines and other prescriptions I've had.

Yeah if it's a third dose CEV you get the full dose moderna Mine are numbered 1/2/3 so I guess that's because 4 will be my booster
