Do you think there will be a lockdown after Christmas?

What do you think?

OP posts:
FFSFFSFFS · 21/12/2021 11:34

Clearly.

Ocdsucks8613 · 21/12/2021 11:34

Lockdown = no
More restrictions = yes

ThettaReddast · 21/12/2021 11:37

Restrictions almost certainly, full lockdown doubtful.

Tittyfilarious81 · 21/12/2021 11:37

No maybe some new restrictions but not a lockdown

PinkSundae · 21/12/2021 11:39

I think restrictions that ultimately equate to a lockdown so they can leave everyone owning businesses in the lurch with no financial assistance. Don't know what we'll do we only just scraped by the last one as did a lot of our small business friends 😢

BluebellsGreenbells · 21/12/2021 11:41

Doubt it. Think there’ll be local restrictions, but the message is clear you are responsible for your own health and well-being and need to take your own precautions. Double or triple vaxed are unlikely to need hospital treatment unless for another reason.

BluebellsGreenbells · 21/12/2021 11:43

I think government want to wean people off government support - that included gingival help - test will become less available as people take their own risks with LFT.

Travel PCR will stay because it makes money, and holiday companies will increase premiums to take into account isolation rules around the world.

RJnomore1 · 21/12/2021 11:43

Yes.

Whether they call it such or reintroduce individual restrictions that create it is a different matter.

goodlucksoonplease · 21/12/2021 11:43

The in laws are due to stay with us, do you think that will be allowed?

OP posts:
MatildaIThink · 21/12/2021 11:44

Either a lockdown, or a lockdown in all but name, yes.

It will be announced later this week, my guess is Thursday as he won't want to announce it on Christmas eve. It will come in at some point next week (he will need 48 hours to recall parliament so they could sit on Friday, or more likely the Wednesday after Christmas), it will probably last until at least the end of January. My guess is hospitality and entertainment venues closed, home schooling and work from home for January (or longer) and restrictions on meeting other households indoors.

People will comply with hospitality being closed, because they have no other choice, but they will ignore the meeting other households rule, in a lot of cases because of the behaviour of the Johnson regime.

Dghgcotcitc · 21/12/2021 11:45

Umm I don’t know but I am starting to think no to a full lockdown in that I think schools and outdoor socialising will be allowed.

Kbish1 · 21/12/2021 11:46

I really hope not.

Its my mums funeral on the 30th. I will be devastated if we can only have a few people there

How do I pick, from a big Irish family who should be there and who shouldn't?

Eightandahalfyears · 21/12/2021 11:49

Not a lockdown, but restrictions including no indoor hospitality. Rules on meeting people indoors in houses. Basically whatever they can get away with without having to provide financial support. And if so, my friends that own pubs are about to lose their entire livelihood. My friends that work in nightclubs are going to be fucked over again, oh, and the chefs and waiting staff in venues that do not have outdoor spaces. It’s going to be another shit show.

Bluntness100 · 21/12/2021 11:50

No, not if the hospital admissions and deaths stay low and the booster program keeps running at pace.

DockOTheBay · 21/12/2021 11:52

No, I think they will find that this variant doesn't cause deaths and hospitalisations and the restrictions won't be required.

I realise there have been hospitalisations and deaths "from" omicron. But thinking about it, is 1% of the population have the virus, then you would expect 1% of people hospitalised to have the virus. Just like if 1% of people have red hair, you would expect 1% of people hospitalised to have red hair. It doesn't mean the red hair caused the hospitalisations.

scandikate · 21/12/2021 11:53

No. I think the data is looking a little better than expected although still early days. Some restrictions particularly about how many people you have in the house and social distancing, yes.

DockOTheBay · 21/12/2021 11:55

Nobody can tell you that. Just crack on with your plans for now.
Wilma55 · 21/12/2021 11:57

Rishi is making some sort of announcement this afternoon. Maybe help for hospitality?

LynxGiftsetAndSocks · 21/12/2021 11:59

There will be local retail closures if not enough staff

Have already been briefed that we may need to close branches

Pcr tests taking too long....retail staff have no choice but to work face to face with unvaccinated customers as well as unmasked customers

Kate3150 · 21/12/2021 12:39

Will we hear anything today?

IcedPurple · 21/12/2021 12:41

Can we merge all the 'Will there be a lockdown?' threads.

There must be about 200 of them at this stage.

Nellodee · 21/12/2021 12:41

There won’t be much point in a lockdown by then. Either this will have been mild and we’ll be on the downward incline, or it will be horrible, but we’ll still be on the downward incline.
There may, however, be a shutdown as staff shortages peak in January across all sectors.

Eredoor · 21/12/2021 13:32

Restrictions in hospitality and entertainment type places, maybe sport behind closed doors and some indoor restrictions on socialising. Maybe SD in shops.

InCahootswithOrwell · 21/12/2021 13:36

Almost And I think we’ve probably missed the point where we might have been able to introduce lockdown measures and keep schools open.

By the time we get round to it, I’m not sure we’re going to have a choice but to do everything possible to cut as many transmission lines as possible.

Eredoor · 21/12/2021 13:36

Also announced on Wednesday or Thursday to start before NYE, gives time for recall of Parliament to vote on 27th or 28th
