Day 2 PCR and recent Covid

Has anyone who has had Covid in the past 90 days had a day 2 PCR on return to UK? Do you know what would happen if you test positive? How do they differentiate between current and past infection?

AFAIK they can’t differentiate, if you test positive you’ll need to isolate again for 10 days.
