Omicron contact

If you have tested positive for coronavirus, do you get advised if it is the omicron variant? I have tested positive for coronavirus on a PCR but wondered if it was omicron. It only makes a difference to me as the rest of my family have had covid 19 as it was a few months ago but if I have omicron then I will isolate away from them.

I believe if test and trace contact you, you can ask if it’s Omicron. If you live in London there’s a higher chance that it is, as it’s the dominant strain there, but in any case whatever you have, that your family can catch it again, but along with having had covid and vaccines their immunity is better than those not having had covid previously.
