Not sure what the legal stance is.

xxxGirlCrushxxx · 19/12/2021 21:33

legal? well its not illegal to refuse the vaccination yet is it?

Ahblahblablahumbug · 19/12/2021 21:33

Yes @mnhq

DarknessAndLight · 19/12/2021 21:34

Is being anti vax mandate the same as being anti vax even if you’ve had the vaccines? It’s a flipping minefield now.

wishingitwasspring · 19/12/2021 21:35

No, I wasn't suggesting it was. Maybe legal is the wrong word. Is it ok to publicly promote antivaccination?

OP posts:
Sonex · 19/12/2021 21:36

Please

BIWI · 19/12/2021 21:36

Yes. All social media has a responsibility to remove misinformation about the vaccines.

This is what I was trying to say

Agree.
BIWI · 19/12/2021 21:37

Why are you asking, btw? Do you want to promote anti-vax propaganda?

Omg no.
OP posts:
howley1 · 19/12/2021 21:39

yes when they post misinformation/ blatant lies.
no if they're having legitimate concerns which haven't already been disproven millions of times.

This And HQ are being great about removing the lies and misinformation about Covid in general and the vaccines in particular. Thankfully. If the lies spread by the anti-vaxxers were allowed to stand, they could influence people into not taking up the vaccine. Allowing that to stand would be very morally questionable.

Are you saying something about vaccination that is not true?

If the answer is yes, then it's misinformation.

If no, then crack on.

XenoBitch · 19/12/2021 21:53

I have seen many threads today which have been vitriolic crap aimed at people who do not want the vaccine. Divisive and nasty. One has already been removed.

Fair enough

But my question was more about should those who support antivaccination and trot out all their misinformation, and misguided opinion be removed.

Unless of course Mumsnet is suddenly full of scientific experts

OP posts:
Bitofachinwag · 19/12/2021 22:00

People should be allowed to express their opinion, even if the majority doesn't agree with it. But there's a fine line between that and posting misinformation.

JSL52 · 19/12/2021 22:02

I'm fully vaxxed and think any vaxxers are idiots.
BUT free speech , also MN aren't in a position to fact check everything.

HesterShaw1 · 19/12/2021 22:02

Don't you think there's a risk it would be counter productive?

Bitofachinwag · 19/12/2021 22:03

Unless of course Mumsnet is suddenly full of scientific experts

That should go both ways then. If only scientific experts are allowed to post anti- vaccination opinions surely you would need to be a scientific experts to write pro- vaccination posts too?

YellowClouds · 19/12/2021 22:04

We are not quite living in a police state yet.

I think people should be free to discuss covid/vaccines/passports even if they have differing opinions.

Or if that is the route we go down then maybe all the health advice given out on MN should be policed because some of the advice given out on health threads is dangerous at best!

At the end of the day no one should be making any big life decisions based on the opinions of a bunch of strangers on a forum

Cherryblossoms85 · 19/12/2021 22:06

Quite a gap between antivaxx and having a few concerns about the direction of travel of a very authoritarian government..

dreamingbohemian · 19/12/2021 22:09

MN is a private company and can ban whatever it wants

I do think they should remove antivax disinformation. Antivaxxers are putting everyone's health at risk, by contributing to the filling up of critical care capacity.

Genuine concerns are fine, needle phobics deserve support. People saying COVID is a hoax and the vaccine isn't real are more sinister than that.

Agreed, the overt hatred from some is shocking. People really do go nuts when they have an acceptable out-group to scapegoat.

No to deletions of different views, please. I can make my own mind up without any thread police deciding what I can and can't read, as I'm sure we all can.

I haven’t seen any covid is a hoax posts and I’m sure mners will be able to approach those posts in a robust and intelligent manner. For that reason, maybe they should stand.
