Mixed up PCR tests

DS2 got symptoms and a positive Lateral Flow on Friday. Tested him and me (I need one for work) yesterday. Now I've done loads of these and I'm usually really organised at keeping them separate and identifying which is who's. However....

There was a problem with one of the kits and they had to give us a different bag and swap it all over, at some point during doing this and taking our samples I got the vials in the wrong bags, swapped them over so the barcodes matched and explained to the test centre person that I wasn't 100% sure they were the right way around and asked to repeat the test. They said they have no spare tests at all and that it won't matter, we can't waste them so they said just best guess and it's 50/50 if you're right!

Spent all yesterday panicked about this because I am needed at work all week (Nurse). Lo and behold, today we get the results and I'm positive and DS is negative. Now I know they're wrong. I've booked tests for us both (and DH and DD) again today, haven't heard from track and trace yet but I have a feeling they are not going to be particularly understanding of the situation. When mine from today comes back negative, my boss is happy to have me back as long as I keep doing daily LFD tests, but I don't think T&T are going to agree!

It's a huge cock up, I should have just driven off and refused to submit the tests, but they were making me feel bad for wasting them (fair enough!).

I tested positive on weds and track and trace still haven't been in touch. They've sent a few texts saying how busy they are and I should be isolating but that's it. I think they are overwhelmed at the moment so the chances of you being called are slim.

RagzReturnedUnwrapped · 19/12/2021 10:01

I'll have to try to call them then, I'll try 119 and see if they can advise. I did wonder why I was getting texts asking me to do T&T online, last month when DS1 had it we got a call the same day.

Is your son in the same house hold as you? I thought the new rules were that the whole house hold had to isolate if someone is positive.

Nope, it changed again.

No, that’s not right.

I'm in England, I think this may be the rule in Scotland?

I called test and trace and they were surprisingly chill about it. Said I'm doing the right thing by re-doing it today and to call them when the results come back and they will update the system so I can go back to work. They said to keep doing daily LFD tests (which we are anyway).

I'm actually skeptical that it will be so easy to override the positive result, but we will see!

My DSis had this. Confusion in the car when testing and handing over/scanning the tests, leading to positive lft getting negative pcr, and vive versa. They redid the tests and got the results they should have had initially. T and t were able to swap the results so they were correct on the system.

Thank you, that's really reassuring. I was worried we'd get a 'computer says no' scenario and they would refuse to do that. I knew it must have happened to other people!

Hi I’ve had this exact same issue and I’m glad I’m not alone! I’ve tried to call T and T but it doesn’t allow incoming calls. Did you phone 119 or did t and t contact you (I’m just getting texts at the moment ).

RagzReturnedUnwrapped · 02/01/2022 22:34

I called 119 (option for T&T) and I spoke to T&T when they called. After taking the 2nd test and getting results, I called them again but was told to put it all in an email. Took ages to get a confirmation that they would deal with it and haven't heard since so no idea if it ever was updated. Never had the T&T call for the 2nd set of results (DS2 positive). Very confusing!

I haven’t had a call yet from T and T and the result came through yesterday.
We had our repeat pcrs today, to get the correct result.
Once you had your negative through did you go out as normal? I have work Tuesday (also NHS) so I’m stressing !
