No explanation needed. Just a yes or no.

For me it's a hard NO.

OP posts:
bumbleymummy · 19/12/2021 12:47

@Player067 and plenty of polls have shown otherwise.

AshLane · 19/12/2021 12:48

And for those of you wanting schools to be open, please help us.

The biggest risk to your child not being able to go to school is lack of staff, due to illness caused by COVID - spreading because we all continue to mix.

LA's are already planning for a really disrupted return to school caused by lack of staff.

VikingOnTheFridge · 19/12/2021 12:48

When push comes to shove I expect most people will stick to the rules, as they have in the past... I take many of these posts with a generous pinch of salt.

Out of interest, what makes you think posters stuck to the rules in the past? You'd really have no way of knowing what anyone other than people who share that information with you and people whose behaviour you can see are doing.

There's obviously been quite considerable variation in what people do and feel comfortable with. All but one of my neighbours had people round frequently last lockdown, as did I, but I don't extrapolate from my experiences and assume that picture was repeated across the population.

TynieTim · 19/12/2021 12:50

And you keep telling yourself otherwise if you find it comforting to do so!

There may be more that back a lock down than don't, but there is a considerable percentage that don't, according to your link. And if that percentage refuse to lock down, then really, locking down will mean nothing. Personally I think those who want to lock themselves down are free to do so. The rest of us, who know we will be living with this forever, will just get on with our lives and continue to see our friends and families.

gettingolderandgrumpy · 19/12/2021 12:50

No why

  1. Me and all my family ( adults ) are triple jabbed 2)I’ve had covid pre vaccine wasn’t pleasant but was mild . 3)I test regularly
  2. Because I believe lockdowns cause more harm than good my list for that is even longer . 5)The majority that are in hospital with covid are the unvaccinated if they want to do something do something about that .
  3. because the government are a bunch of liars who pick and choose what information we need they want us to panic .
QOD · 19/12/2021 12:51

Technically she lives her - gp registered to this address etc. So she will still come home
If it’s for 2 weeks, I’m sure we’ll cope without over riding it tho. But if she wants to come home. She can
Frontline Nhs and working extremely rough shifts

Player067 · 19/12/2021 12:53

The ONS published a study earlier this year which showed a high level of compliance. The online "noise" on boards such as this does not, in my opinion, represent the population as a whole. Of course there will be some non-compliance - but I believe most people will still stick to the rules. I guess we will soon know who is right!

crazyjinglist · 19/12/2021 12:53

Yes, partly because I won't really have any choice. If schools are closed, my kids can't go. If shops and hospitality are closed I won't be able to go to them. My extended family all live hours away so I can't pop round and see them, and they would definitely comply so I wouldn't be able to see them anyway.

I'm generally a rule follower and coped fine with lockdown anyway. People in my area seemed to comply well with the lockdown rules too. I guess there would be less compliance if we had another lockdown though.

howdiditcometothis666 · 19/12/2021 12:55

@AshLane

Yes.

I want to keep my family safe.

Can you amend that to "Safe from Covid"

What about safe from financial ruin?
safe from mental health anguish and suicide?
safe from end of life GP zoom appointments FFS my favourite
safe from inhumane and cruel measures implemented in the name of Covid
safe to say goodbye
Fuck lockdowns - for some it's not woodland walks and paid to sit in front of the fire
All for a death rate which we lived through right up until 2008

In terms of going to shops, restaurants and pubs, people don't really have a choice but to 'comply'.

Visiting family is a different matter. These 'studies' are presumably based on self-reporting, and it's unlikely people will admit to breaking rules, even in an anonymous survey. So it's hard to gauge to what extent people were really 'complying'.

Also, I think people would be much less likely to go along with a lockdown at this stage. I don't actually think there will be a lockdown in the sense of telling people to stay at home and not visit family, just perhaps more restrictions on hospitality and large gatherings. But I guess we'll soon find out.

That tells us what people the ONS surveyed said. Let's assume for a moment that they were all telling the truth, which is unlikely. Why would that mean the people who are saying on MN that they have previously disobeyed the law and will again actually won't? There's no reason whatsoever to imagine the two cohorts overlap at all and even if they did, one of the two assumptions you're making here relates to a totally different question.

It's certainly starting to feel that way.

Not to me! Everyone I know irl is far less compliant than people on MN; this website is another world to me!

DynamiteFilledRadish · 19/12/2021 13:01

Absolutely YES!!! And you lot are all idiots who have said no! I have three friends, Mt age, early 40's all double vaccinated and 1 triple, fit and healthy, and one was in hospital for over two weeks on a ventilator, whilst the other two have had terrible side effects and can't look after their dependants. Just have a think about what I that were you??????

Ok, I've had a think, it changes nothing. Even your hard hitting idiot insult didn't change my mind 🤣

Definitely! But that's the point really, most of us live in a bubble of some kind.

I was going to say the same. With the exception of my DM and one sibling, no one I know complied with any of the previous restrictions.

Same. I don't know anybody in RL who is as terrified and hysterical and compliant as posters on here.
VikingOnTheFridge · 19/12/2021 13:05

I know one person, but only one.

Same here. With the exception of older people. Although I haven't even found them to be hysterical. Just quietly taking precautions to protect themselves, which given their increased risk, is probably sensible.

No.

I will risk assess for my own family, including my vulnerable parents. I am quite capable of making a full decision about the safety of my family.

The oldest person I know gives least of a shit! I think being north of 90 probably concentrates the mind somewhat though.
