No explanation needed. Just a yes or no.

For me it's a hard NO.

What do the ‘No’ sayers think should be done? Do you think we should let bodies pile up outside A&E?
Oh stop. You really think that bodies are going to be piling up when we’ve triple vaccinated the vast majority of the most vulnerable groups? What on Earth do you think the point of vaccinating so many people over the last year has been if we still need lockdowns (which don’t work) to ‘save the NHS

Unfortunately this is so not true and a good 85% of patients admitted currently are unvaccinated completely. Or who haven’t had their booster.

We have had two children in my local primary school hospitalised this month alone. Numbers are through the roof, especially in some cities such as Birmingham where those not taking up vaccines are high. At the end of the day-you have the vaccine to protect yourself-no one else-just yourself, so that when you catch it you won’t be hospitalised and you won’t die. Be selfish-protect yourself.

The NHS is broken-not just by this, but by underfunding and being unappreciated. Numerous older GPs and Consultants have retired early after the second lockdown early this year and there is no one to take their place. Numbers have fallen of young people taking up medicine and numbers of staff who qualified here have taken their experience elsewhere in the world to work.

The NHS as well as the education sector is mainly funded through goodwill of the staff within it. Unfortunately, successive governments-of both major parties have continued to shit on them from a great height. The job’s hard enough without putting so many hurdles along the way. If you treat people badly and pay people badly then somewhere along the line those people will have had enough and leave.

But yes-please get your vaccinations, please wear masks, please obey the advice-whatever it is and whatever you think about it. People like Chris Witty are not saying stuff to piss you off. Everyone is scared; scared of what is blowing up in front of their eyes. And yes-help the NHS and staff that are giving their all and have been for nearly two years. DH has 34 days of annual leave left and has been told he won’t be able to take any yet again; because he will redeployed back into ITU.

WWTBCD · 19/12/2021 11:36

For those saying no specifically because they 'won't be told what to do'.
Do you not see that it's a little bit mad to be childishly refusing to comply because of who is telling you?

Look, I hate this government and don't trust them. I'm really fucking angry about the way they've handled covid, the way they've behaved and the mess they have left us in.
I hate the tories and I've been campaigning against them since I was a teenager. I'm not someone who blindly follows instructions and rules.

But, omicron is a massive threat and we all need to do our bit. I really hope they don't completely stop household mixing before Christmas because I don't want people alone again and not able to see their families.
I feel sick at the thought of my vulnerable relative not being able to go somewhere for Christmas.
I do think restrictions are needed though or this is going to get out of control quickly.

They need to go back to outdoor eating and drinking and close theatres and clubs for example. They also need to give those businesses and staff the financial support to do this.

Don't abide by any lockdown because fucking Boris told you to ffs, do it because you care about yourself, your family and friends, your community.
Because you want to be able to access emergency healthcare if you're very sick, because you don't want someone vulnerable to die because you have them covid.

paranoidnamechanger · 19/12/2021 11:37

@User135644

You can't go to nightclubs, football matches or theatres that aren't open (as an example). Therefore everyone will comply to different extents.
But most things are going to be open in the imminent circuit break, so how does your argument work then?

@Swifey40

Absolutely YES!!! And you lot are all idiots who have said no! I have three friends, Mt age, early 40's all double vaccinated and 1 triple, fit and healthy, and one was in hospital for over two weeks on a ventilator, whilst the other two have had terrible side effects and can't look after their dependants. Just have a think about what I that were you??????
Have you ever spent a Christmas mourning the loss of both parents whilst being told that you are not allowed to be with your siblings for comfort? Have you ever had your adult DD breaking their heart on the phone to you on Christmas Day because she misses her Gp's so much and there is not a damn thing you can do for her, not even give her a hug because visiting her was illegal? No? Well that was my Christmas Day last year. What if that were you? Does wanting to have a better Christmas for my family than last year make me an idiot? There are a number of reason's why people won't do it again and that's mine.
TheKeatingFive · 19/12/2021 11:45

But covid is not the only harmful thing that befall these people. Not by a long shot. Lockdown has been hugely damaging for many.

Malteser71 · 19/12/2021 11:46

Mrs Elijah.

I agree with almost everything you say, apart from ‘everyone is scared.’

They really aren’t.

DH also front line ITU.

bumbleymummy · 19/12/2021 11:54

Your first figure has been debunked several times now. Look at the figures from the latest UKHSA report for hospitalisations and ICNARC for critical care. And fwiw two doses are still holding up well for protection against hospitalisation and the majority of vulnerable people have had their third dose now. I’m not sure opening them up to over 18s before all the over 50s/vulnerable had a chance to book was the best idea tbh though.

If it's table service only in bars (for example) then you can't just go in and stand where you want, if the proprietor enforces the rule.

julieca · 19/12/2021 11:59

I think the politicians know they will have to close businesses. They cant just say don't mix at home, because too many wont comply. So they will have to go for more economically damaging options.

Chakraleaf · 19/12/2021 12:00

Yes. We need to get kids back into school!

CouldThisReallyBe · 19/12/2021 12:01

No

julieca · 19/12/2021 12:02

@User135644 I think there will be a lot lower compliance from hospitality than in the past. I am not sure simply table service rules will make much difference. Especially as everywhere around me are struggling getting staff and for table service you need more staff. I suspect many will advertise table service only, but will still serve you at the bar.

julieca · 19/12/2021 12:03

Basically I think unless they are going to close businesses, they shouldn't bother with messing around with rules that most wont comply with and make little difference. Either go for it properly, or dont.

RestingStitchFace · 19/12/2021 12:04

Providing it's after Christmas, yes. A no-brainer. It' only 2 weeks and they are talking about keeping schools open.

whynotwhatknot · 19/12/2021 12:05

the rumour for the next lockdown is outside eating only so i guess thats their get out clause for offering any funding as it wont be a complte lockdown

TheKeatingFive · 19/12/2021 12:06

It' only 2 weeks

Past performance would suggest this is highly unlikely

Delatron · 19/12/2021 12:07

What would 2 weeks achieve? Apart from screwing over the hospitality sector even more?

Blubells · 19/12/2021 12:09

It' only 2 weeks and they are talking about keeping schools open.

I'm glad they're keeping schools open!

People are understandably angry, scared and upset by the likelihood of a lockdown. I think some posters deal with those feelings and let off steam by noisily declaring their intention not to comply. When push comes to shove I expect most people will stick to the rules, as they have in the past... I take many of these posts with a generous pinch of salt.
Underhisi · 19/12/2021 12:11

Yes within reason. I won't be following any stay close to home guidance because that doesn't work for ds and he will be in school regardless. We only have one person into our house and that will continue as they can be classed as his carer. We have remained careful throughout because it would be impossible for ds to self isolate so we have never gone back to meeting friends or using indoor hospitality.
