No explanation needed. Just a yes or no.

For me it's a hard NO.

Yes

@RichTeaRichTea

Things are a bit different for me this time round - I was on mat leave this time last year and was incredibly isolated and had crippling PND. I would continue to support the other women I know with PND in any way I could, including breaking rules if necessary.
Providing care and support to others was allowed in previous lockdowns. No reason why that would not be the case with a new lockdown.
DobbyTheHouseElk · 19/12/2021 07:38

No.

I will not stop seeing my elderly parents inside. I did the other times and it has had a dramatic decline in their mental health.

Friends still think it’s too dangerous to mix inside so I haven’t done that since March 2020. I would if they’d have me.

If they shut the gym I use then I would look out for a small one locally that remained open behind closed doors.

TheVampiresWife · 19/12/2021 07:40

It wouldn't work to protect the vulnerable if everyone else is around merrily spreading the virus, because they can't totally avoid all contacts given the need to shop etc

But the CEV wouldn't be going out shopping if they had the correct support (and again, crucially, if that's what they wanted).

Of course it has to be voluntary. While it's not ideal, many CEV people in risky jobs would be relieved to know that they wouldn't have to risk their lives daily. It'd be cheaper than a full lockdown too - even if CEV were on furlough for the duration.

It would be an absolute godsend in my house. DH is wfh but DD is a teacher, so by association I'm mixing with her contacts even if I stay home. Imagine knowing that you could bring something into the house that could kill your mother and you couldn't do a thing about it.

It’s an excellent test of intelligence and selfishness this question.

(If you aren’t going to comply then you have failed the test)

RichTeaRichTea · 19/12/2021 07:44

Claudethecat In theory but not in reality. There was no help for women like me. Nothing.

luckylavender · 19/12/2021 07:44

YES. And I'd judge people who didn't.

Are people who were so badly affected by previous lockdowns that they ended up in MH crisis, and are terrified of what another lockdown might do to them, lacking in intelligence? Or selfish?

That's one reason why it wouldn't work - some CEV live with essential workers. Of course they wouldn't be gong out shopping, but people who may be infected then have to come to then. And, once again, it couldn't be left to "only if you want to" if the NHS is going to cope.
P0ntiacBandit · 19/12/2021 07:48

Yes. But I understand why people won't and won't judge them for their choice.

yellowgreysocks · 19/12/2021 07:51

@lemmein

They aren't off "sick", they are forced to isolate due to daft government legislation.

@siteofmoronslol Totally agree with this. No doubt it'll change soon; if omicron is as transmissible as reported there's no way we can keep asymptomatic workers in isolation, especially if Omicron proves to be no worse than a cold for most.

It's not that long ago everyone in a household had to self-isolate if one person tested positive. Totally unsustainable, especially for a milder variant.

This is still the case for NhS workers. Covid in the house and you can't come to work.

It's a massive issues for staffing. But getting rid of it means the public need to agree to being treated by asymptomatic covid staff or highly likely to develop it staff given the transmissibility. Then everyone on here will be bitching about how reckless the NHS is and we killed vulnerable people. We can never win.

No. There will naturally be a degree of 'compliance' in my family as we are all quite quiet/introverted but I intend to carry on as normally as I can.
